David Dastmalchian Celebrates ‘Epic Night’ At Universal Studios Fan Fest, Teases Mr. 3 Role In ‘One Piece’
Actor immerses in beloved franchises while dropping hints about upcoming Netflix and Apple TV roles.

Actor David Dastmalchian recently had what he described as an “epic night” at Universal Studios’ Fan Fest Nights, immersing himself in several beloved entertainment franchises while dropping hints about his upcoming projects.
The versatile character actor took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos from his experience at Universal Studios’ special Fan Fest Nights event. Dastmalchian, who appeared genuinely enthusiastic about the experience, wrote that he was “celebrating so many things we 💙” at the special event.
As a self-proclaimed fan himself, Dastmalchian expressed how “v cool” it was to get lost in various iconic entertainment worlds, including Back to the Future, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dungeons & Dragons, and Star Trek, during the event. His post included multiple photos showing him exploring themed areas and posing with various characters and props from these franchises.
Perhaps most notably for anime fans, Dastmalchian specifically highlighted Netflix’s “One Piece” adaptation in his post, writing “& of course…. @onepiecenetflix! mr 3 is coming.” This confirms his involvement in the hit live-action adaptation’s second season, where he’ll be playing the character Mr. 3, also known as Galdino, a villain with the ability to produce and control wax.
This announcement follows a previous Instagram post from the official One Piece Netflix account featuring Dastmalchian discussing his experience as “the ingenious human candle of Season 2.” In that video, he appeared to be speaking about his role as the character known for creating wax-based weapons and traps in the popular series.
While celebrating his fandom for various franchises, Dastmalchian also expressed his excitement for another upcoming project. At the end of his post, he added: “apropos of nothing… i am SO EXCITED for u 2 👀 #Murderbot on @appletv soon.”
This references his role in the upcoming Apple TV+ adaptation of Martha Wells’ award-winning science fiction series “The Murderbot Diaries.” In a previous Instagram post, Dastmalchian revealed that he worked on the Murderbot project “during some of the most difficult days of my life,” crediting the production team for supporting him through challenging times.
“The family of artists that Chris & Paul Weitz assembled to bring @marthawellswriter story to life carried me every single day. Very grateful for all of it,” he wrote in that earlier post. The series is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV+ on May 16.
Dastmalchian has become increasingly recognizable in recent years with roles in major franchises and acclaimed projects. The actor has appeared in films like “The Dark Knight,” “Ant-Man,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and most recently gained significant attention for his portrayal of Polka-Dot Man in James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad.”
Beyond his screen work, Dastmalchian has been active in other creative endeavors. He recently shared that he hosts a show about death called “The Big D,” where he interviews guests who join him in a casket to discuss mortality.
Dastmalchian’s career continues to diversify with his upcoming role in the horror-themed project with the Boulet Brothers, which he teased in another recent post, describing it as a “sinister celebration” featuring some of his “favorite monsters.”
With his involvement in the popular One Piece franchise and the anticipated Murderbot series, Dastmalchian’s profile in genre entertainment continues to rise, much to the delight of fans across multiple fandoms who appreciate his distinctive presence and versatile performances.
