A New Chapter For Candice King

Candice King, best known for her role as Caroline Forbes on The Vampire Diaries, is stepping into uncharted territory with We Were Liars. The actress graces the latest issue of PhotoBook Magazine to discuss her return to television after a hiatus, the challenges of playing a more emotionally complex character, and how her approach to storytelling has matured over time.

From Caroline Forbes To Constance

In the article, King reflects on trading the supernatural world of Mystic Falls for the high-stakes drama of the Sinclair family saga. “Playing Caroline was a gift,” she says, “but this new role asks me to tap into darker emotions I hadn’t explored before.” In We Were Liars, King portrays Constance, a layered character at the heart of a psychological thriller adapted from E. Lockhart’s bestselling novel.

According to the PhotoBook Magazine feature, King reunited with a creative team led by editor-in-chief Alison Hernon and photographer duo Rex Yu Jones and Jones Crow. The shoot was styled by Jordan Gross from The Only Agency, with beauty by Bren Robertson and Lola Brezin assisting on wardrobe details. King wore a sculpted gown by HER CIPHER from Shop Zero, accented with Heaven Mayhem earrings.

On-set Reconnection And Craft

King spent much of the last few years focused on family and other passions outside of acting. In her interview with associate fashion editor Seana Watson, she admits the break allowed her to gain fresh perspective. “I missed the camaraderie on set, the feeling of building a world from scratch,” King explains. “Returning to a role that’s so different from anything I’ve done has reignited my passion.”

She describes the adaptation process as collaborative, praising showrunner Sarah Streicher and director Sofia Andrade for creating a safe space to explore intense scenes. “I was drawn to Constance’s complexity—her secrets, her vulnerabilities,” King notes. “It pushed me to find new layers in my performance.”

Premiere Moments

King marked the debut of We Were Liars at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where she celebrated with family, friends, and her glam squad. In a recent Instagram post, she shared exclusive behind-the-scenes shots from the red carpet.***

Looking Ahead

With We Were Liars now live, King is already fielding scripts for future projects.
