From A Fan To A Star Trek Captain
Anson Mount shared a milestone moment on Instagram, revealing he’s officially taken the Captain Pike chair aboard the USS Enterprise for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3. In a heartfelt caption, Mount wrote, “I grew up watching Bill Shatner strut his stuff across the bridge and sit in a chair that I could not fathom would one day be mine to occupy. It has been a dream fulfilled.” He thanked Paramount+, showrunners Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Henry Alonso Myers, co-star Sonequa Martin-Green for “lighting the way,” and fans for their “faith and support.”
Mount, 49, first stepped into the role of Captain Christopher Pike in the series’ debut and returned as a regular from season 2 onward. A Tennessee native, he built his career starring in AMC’s Hell on Wheels before embracing the captain’s lauded legacy in the Star Trek franchise. His turn as Pike has been praised for balancing the character’s iconic stoicism with fresh humanity, setting the tone for Strange New Worlds’ blend of classic adventure and modern storytelling.
Sneak Peeks And Poster Drops
Paramount+ and the official Star Trek Instagram have been teasing season 3 content for weeks. On June 18, SFX Magazine published an exclusive preview featuring behind-the-scenes shots of Pike on the bridge and the crew preparing for new missions. The Star Trek account captioned that post, “A peek inside Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 has beamed into SFX Magazine, available June 18th!” Fans spotted Mount in his blue uniform alongside Rebecca Romijn’s Number One and Ethan Peck’s Spock, setting their tricorders to high excitement.
Shortly after, a carousel of season 3 posters landed online with the caption, “Season 3 posters, y’all. Flip through them! #startrek.” The vibrant images highlight fresh character portraits, including Mount in full command regalia. Production photos have also surfaced of scenes shot on the iconic AR wall prop—foreshadowing the sci-fi spectacle ahead.
Mark Your Calendars: July 17 Premiere
The countdown is on: July 17 marks the return of Strange New Worlds on Paramount+. A recent Instagram announcement warned viewers, “Be there or be a two-dimensional representation of something that, were it three-dimensional, could suggest assimilation within a hive-like scourge sweeping through the galaxy.” In other words: don’t miss it.
Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has promised “new worlds, new challenges and more character-driven stories than ever.” With Mount at the helm, the series will continue exploring Pike’s moral compass as the Enterprise crew charts unexplored sectors. The season is expected to expand on Pike’s backstory and introduce fresh alien encounters, all while paying homage to classic episodes penned by Gene Roddenberry.
As the premiere approaches, Mount’s Instagram post encourages fans to stick around “before we hang up these phasers.” This season promises high-stakes missions, surprising alliances and the warm camaraderie that made Strange New Worlds a critical and fan favorite.
With his boyhood dream realized, Anson Mount is poised to guide the next chapter of Star Trek history. Strap in, adjust your phasers and prepare for lift-off on July 17.
