Nick Offerman has announced the upcoming release of his sixth book, “Little Woodchucks: Offerman Woodshop’s Guide to Tools and Tomfoolery,” set to hit shelves this October. The actor and accomplished woodworker shared the news via Instagram, promising that his latest literary offering “should fix everything!”

The Instagram post features the book’s cover, which displays Offerman alongside co-author Lee Maughan of the Lee Builds Studio. The cover showcases various woodworking tools and projects designed for young craftspeople.

A New Direction In Woodworking Literature

According to Offerman’s announcement, the book is specifically designed for introducing children to the world of woodworking, filled with “projects that you can make with and for small people who are new to activities like sawing and drilling.”

This focus on youth woodworking represents a slight departure from his previous works while maintaining his commitment to the craft that has become synonymous with his public persona outside of acting.

Offerman encouraged followers to spread the word about the new release, writing, “Please share the news with all of the other woodchucks in your coterie, which is what we call a group of us.” The book is currently available for pre-order through a link in his Instagram bio.

Expanding The Offerman Library

“Little Woodchucks” joins Offerman’s growing collection of published works. His fifth book, “Where the Deer and the Antelope Play,” explored his relationship with the outdoors through three journeys undertaken in 2019 and 2020, inspired by a conversation with writer Wendell Berry.

That book, which he highlighted in an Earth Day post earlier in April, delved into “the history and philosophy of our relationship with nature in our national parks, in our farming, and in our backyards,” as well as conservation and outdoor recreation.

Offerman Woodshop’s Growing Influence

The new book reflects Offerman’s ongoing commitment to woodworking through his Offerman Woodshop, a collective of woodworkers based in Los Angeles. The workshop produces handcrafted wooden items ranging from furniture to keepsake boxes and specialty cards, all with an emphasis on craftsmanship and natural materials.

In a recent post promoting Mother’s Day gifts from the shop, Offerman emphasized their commitment to quality: “Give Mom the mighty amount of recognition she deserves & honor Mother Nature herself with a one-of-a-kind handcrafted wooden gift. Always made with love in Los Angeles from our skilled team of woodworkers at Offerman Woodshop!”

Beyond The Workshop

While woodworking remains a central part of his identity, Offerman continues to maintain a diverse career in entertainment. The actor, best known for his role as Ron Swanson on “Parks and Recreation,” recently appeared in promotional materials for “The Life of Chuck,” an upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s work directed by Mike Flanagan, set for release on June 13.

He also voices a character on the animated series “The Great North,” which he promoted in a separate post for an April 13 episode titled “Dial M for Moonder.”

Additionally, Offerman has been touring with his wife, actress Megan Mullally, performing live shows together, including a recent appearance at the Folly Theater in Kansas City.

Environmental Advocacy

Consistent with themes in his written work, Offerman has also been active in environmental causes. In April, he announced a contest in support of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), offering winners a hike for two in Los Angeles with him and a signed copy of “Where the Deer and the Antelope Play.”

“We need to stay behind [the NRDC] because they DEFEND our NATURAL RESOURCES,” Offerman emphasized in the post.

The announcement of “Little Woodchucks” reinforces Offerman’s unique position at the intersection of entertainment, craftsmanship, and environmental consciousness, offering fans yet another dimension of his multifaceted career.

The book is now available for pre-order and will be released in October 2024.
