Acclaimed artist Laurel Holloman took to Instagram to share a nostalgic throwback to her Spring 2018 exhibition titled ‘Color Forest.’ The exhibition, which took place at Fondazione Matalon in Milan, was a collaborative showcase featuring Holloman’s abstract paintings alongside the acrylic glass sculptures of Swiss artist Susi Kramer.

A Dialogue Across Generations

The exhibition brought together two artists from different backgrounds and generations—Holloman, born in the United States in 1971, and Kramer, born in Switzerland in 1947. Despite their different origins and artistic approaches, the duo established what Holloman described as “a surprisingly rich and readable dialogue” through their work.

United By Color

At the heart of both artists’ work was a profound exploration of color. As Holloman explained in her caption, color served as the central element that united their artistic visions—whether expressed through her “large material and suggestive backgrounds” or captured in Kramer’s “purity of forms in the acrylic glass” that has become her signature style.

The exhibition guided visitors through what Holloman described as “a journey of the joy of living, of the Mediterranean atmospheres, of the feminine sensitivity to nature and feelings combined with constant experimentation and technical mastery.”

From Actress To Acclaimed Artist

Laurel Holloman first gained recognition as an actress, notably for her role as Tina Kennard in the Showtime drama series “The L Word” which aired from 2004 to 2009. However, she has since established herself as a respected abstract painter with an international presence in the art world.

Holloman began painting in 2010 and had her first solo exhibition in 2012 at the Ame Gallery in Venice, California. Since then, her work has been featured in galleries across Europe and the United States, including exhibitions in Paris, Berlin, and London.

Recent Artistic Endeavors

Holloman has been actively sharing updates about her artistic career on Instagram. In recent months, she has highlighted several achievements, including having her paintings featured in prestigious publications like Vanity Fair and The World of Interiors magazine.

In April 2024, Holloman donated a painting titled “Temperature of Traveling,” an oil on canvas piece, to The Laurel Foundation’s charity auction. The artwork was auctioned through Bonhams to support programs for at-promise and LGBTQ+ youth.

“All proceeds go to the Laurel Foundation,” Holloman shared in one of her posts. “The painting is called Temperature of Traveling and is 18 by 24 oil on cut canvas.”

Recognition In Major Publications

Holloman’s work has received significant recognition in the art world. Earlier this year, she celebrated her painting “To The Wonder” being featured in Vanity Fair’s February 2025 issue in a section titled “A Change of Art.” The piece was exhibited in Miami during Art Basel week before becoming part of a private collection.

Similarly, her works “Swingers” and “Lolita’s Flight” were included in The World of Interiors magazine in their May and April editions respectively, further cementing her status in the contemporary art scene.

Maternal Pride

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Holloman also shared a glimpse into her personal life in April with a post congratulating her youngest daughter on a successful season, showing that she balances her artistic career with family life.

Holloman’s journey from acting to becoming an internationally recognized artist demonstrates her versatility and creative evolution. Her continued success in the art world, with features in prominent publications and participation in significant exhibitions, reflects the distinctive voice she has developed as a visual artist focused on bold colors and expressive abstract forms.

Through exhibitions like ‘Color Forest,’ Holloman continues to explore the emotional power of color and form, creating works that resonate with audiences across the globe and establishing herself as a significant presence in contemporary abstract art.
