Matt McJunkins, known for his work with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, has released “Low,” the brooding new single from his upcoming Evolution Pt. 2 EP. “In the end what will be? Oblivion is all that we need,” he writes in the track’s Instagram announcement. Now streaming on all major platforms, “Low” finds the multi-instrumentalist diving into postpunk-tinged darkwave.

Building on his evolution concept, “Low” layers thudding analog bass pulses with echoing synth lines and industrial-edge percussion. McJunkins’s baritone vocals cut through a haze of reverb as he meditates on endings and transformation. The result is a track that sits comfortably at the crossroads of electronic music and post-punk fervor.

In the official Instagram post, McJunkins shared three studio snapshots: one of him hunched over a rack of oscillators, another peering through headphones at a mixer, and a third capturing saturated LED lights dancing across his control board. The visuals underscore his #allanalog approach, spotlighting vintage gear rather than digital plugins.

From Touring Bassist To Solo Experimenter

Over the past two decades, McJunkins has cemented his reputation as a go-to bassist for rock’s biggest alternative acts. But his solo work leans into electronic influences—synthwave textures, darkwave moods and industrial motifs all weave into the single. “Low” follows his first Evolution Pt. 1 batch of songs, signaling a deliberately thematic two-part series.

He’s no stranger to collaboration. Beyond studio work, McJunkins has been on the road with heavyweights such as Primus and Puscifer. In a recent throwback post, he celebrated the Sessanta V2.0 tour with bands like A Perfect Circle, writing that teenage him “would have had his mind blown” by sharing stages with his idols.

Merging Music And Merch

As “Low” hits streaming services, McJunkins is concurrently ramping up his merchandise line. Earlier this month, he unveiled first-ever official tees and hoodies produced in partnership with Brothers Merch, featuring artwork by designer @sevenofnein. His fans have already been sharing photos of the black crewnecks and hoodies—some sporting his silhouette on the back—with the hashtag #evolutionpt2.

The merch rollout follows his playful “blue steel” reveal, where he modeled samples of the new gear in studio selfies. At a time when many artists sell one-off vinyl or deluxe box sets, McJunkins has embraced apparel as an extension of his sonic identity.

What’s Next For Evolution Pt. 2?

“Low” is just the opening salvo of the upcoming EP. McJunkins’s caption hints at more tracks that probe existential themes. Fans can expect analog drum machines, bass-heavy grooves and unconventional song structures in the weeks ahead.

Alongside the release, he’s teased a possible remix series—inviting fellow producers to rework “Low” in more upbeat or downtempo styles. His social-media followers have already floated ideas ranging from techno variations to stripped-down ambient versions.

While no official tour dates are announced yet for his solo project, McJunkins continues to fulfil bass duties with his main touring acts. That dual path keeps him in constant creative motion, shifting from large festival stages one week to solitary synth sessions the next.

McJunkins’s “Low” captures a moment of introspection wrapped in dark electronic flair. By straddling analog hardware and contemporary songwriting, he reaffirms his place as a genre-fluid artist pushing beyond the expectations of a touring bassist.

Even as he explores darker soundscapes, one thing remains clear: McJunkins’s evolution is far from over.
