Blonde Redhead, the veteran indie trio formed in New York in 1993, has released a fresh take on one of their most acclaimed songs. “Before (Choir Version)” is out now, featuring the award-winning choral ensemble ByChorus. Fans can stream the single on all platforms via the band’s Linktree in bio.
A New Spin On A Fan Favorite
The original “Before” appears on Blonde Redhead’s 2020 album Sit Down for Dinner, the group’s first full-length release in nearly nine years. That version drew praise for its spacious arrangements and Kazu Makino’s plaintive vocals. For this new rendition, the band revisited the song’s core melody and enlisted ByChorus to deepen its emotional resonance. The choir’s harmonies soar behind Makino, twin brothers Amadeo and Simone Pace, and the track takes on a hymn-like quality that highlights the song’s lyrical longing.
Featuring Bychorus
ByChorus is a Los Angeles–based ensemble known for its genre-bending approach to vocal music. Often spotlighted at contemporary music festivals and lauded by critics, the group brings a polished, cinematic sound to this collaboration. On Instagram, Blonde Redhead wrote, “Our new single, ‘Before (Choir Version)’ is out now 🍓🤍 featuring the award-winning @bychorus ✨ Listen to our song on all platforms via our Linktree in bio. 💕 Photos by Gus Powell @dirtywhitebucks.”
Visuals And Release Details
Accompanying the single is a set of striking images by photographer Gus Powell, credited on Instagram under @dirtywhitebucks. The black-and-white portraits capture Makino, Amadeo, Simone and a selection of ByChorus members in a dimly lit rehearsal space, their expressive poses mirroring the track’s mix of intimacy and grandeur. No music video has been announced yet, but the band promises additional visual content later this season.
From Festivals To Studio
“Before (Choir Version)” arrives on the heels of a busy spring for Blonde Redhead. In early May, the band returned to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival for Weekend Two, posting “thank you @coachella” alongside on-stage photos from the Sonora stage. They captured a late afternoon set that featured both new arrangements and deep cuts from their back catalog.
Looking ahead, Blonde Redhead will join Bloc Party on a North American tour. Their Instagram announcement read, “we are going on a North American tour with @thisisblocparty 💖🎥✨ look out! ticket are available now 💚 photo by Mike White 📷.” The tour kicks off in June and includes a June 6 show at the Woodward Theater in Cincinnati with opener Squirrel Flower.
Across these festival appearances and live dates, the band has quietly refined its sound in the studio. The addition of ByChorus to “Before” is a clear sign they’re willing to experiment beyond their established dream-pop and art-rock palette.
Looking Ahead
As they roll out the choir version of “Before,” Blonde Redhead remains active on social channels. Their Linktree directs listeners to streaming platforms, while Instagram teasers hint at more collaborations and live recordings to come. With this release, the band demonstrates both reverence for their catalogue and a desire to push boundaries. The choir arrangement underlines how a familiar song can find new life through inventive partnerships.
Blonde Redhead’s “Before (Choir Version)” is available now on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and other major platforms. Fans can follow the band for upcoming tour updates and additional behind-the-scenes content featuring ByChorus in the weeks ahead.
