A Direct Link To Ron Carter’s Work

Legendary jazz bassist Ron Carter took to Instagram this week to announce a milestone for his longtime followers and students. In a post from his handle @roncarterbassist, he revealed that “THE RON CARTER LIBRARY is coming to Amazon.com!” Carter now has an official store page where fans can use their Amazon accounts to buy his books directly—no third-party sellers involved.

Carter highlighted three titles available immediately: “Comprehensive Bass Method,” “Blueprint for the Working Jazz Bassist,” and his Smithsonian Interview book. “You can use your Amazon account to buy my books directly from me, not a third party seller, for yourself, for a bass student in need of some support, or a fan of my work and journey finding those right notes,” he wrote.

A Legacy Beyond The Bass

At 85, Carter’s influence stretches back over six decades. A member of the Miles Davis Quintet in the 1960s, he’s recorded on more than 2,200 sessions—making him one of the most recorded jazz bassists in history. In April, Yale University honored him with an honorary doctorate at its 324th commencement ceremony. In an Instagram share from the event, Carter was photographed alongside literary scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. as both new degree recipients processed into the hall.

That honor reflects more than a lifetime of performances. Carter’s discography spans classic albums like “Miles Smiles” and his own leader dates such as “Uptown Conversation.” He’s collaborated with giants from Chet Baker to Herbie Hancock, and his writing—both instructional and reflective—continues to guide aspiring musicians worldwide.

Teaching The Next Generation

Education has been a cornerstone of Carter’s career. His “Comprehensive Bass Method” is widely regarded as an essential text for developing fundamental technique, while “Blueprint for the Working Jazz Bassist” dives into improvisation and professional insight. By opening an Amazon storefront, he aims to streamline access for students and educators. No longer must learners chase used copies or pay inflated prices—in Carter’s own words, the books are now “available directly from me.”

Fans can also explore his website for upcoming performances and clinics. In a recent post, Carter reminded followers to “Stay tuned to RonCarterJazz.com to see where you can find me performing next,” ensuring that his instructional work remains paired with live inspiration.

What’s Next

Carter hinted at more titles to come. Longtime followers can expect future additions to the Ron Carter Library lineup—possibly deep dives into his American and Brazilian recording experiences, or further analysis of his groundbreaking sessions with Antonio Carlos Jobim. For now, bass enthusiasts can head to Amazon to secure Carter’s foundational guides.

Between his Amazon debut and recognition by institutions like Yale, Ron Carter continues to bridge performance, education, and personal storytelling. His new store page offers a rare chance to learn directly from one of jazz’s greatest innovators, ensuring his teachings will resonate with listeners and students for generations to come.
