Broadway No Parque’s Historic Return

After two sold-out editions, the initiative is back from July 10 to 12 at Parque Mayer, Lisbon’s storied theatre district. Producers promise a full-scale musical extravaganza merging international headliners with homegrown stars in an open-air setting. “We’re thrilled to bring the magic of Broadway back to Lisbon’s summer nights,” says a representative of the city’s cultural office.

Star-studded Lineup

Headlining the event is Seth Rudetsky, the Canadian-born conductor, pianist and SiriusXM radio host whose accolades include multiple Podcast Awards. Rudetsky will share the stage with Santino Fontana, the Tony Award-winning actor known for Broadway’s Cinderella and as the voice of Prince Hans in Disney’s Frozen; and Liz Callaway, Tony nominee and original Broadway vocalist in Cats whose voice defined the animated Anastasia. Together, they’ll perform signature numbers from shows that shaped modern musical theatre.

Local Talent Joins The Celebration

Portugal’s own Sissi Martins, celebrated for starring roles in Mamma Mia! and Chicago Lisbon, brings her theatrical flair to the lineup. A curated ensemble of domestic singers and dancers will complement the international guests, blending contemporary choreography with classic Broadway staging. This fusion spotlights Portugal’s vibrant stage scene alongside visiting stars.

A Night Of Iconic Broadway Moments

Each evening features medleys from Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and current hits such as Hamilton. Audiences can expect soaring solos, intricate harmonies and full-orchestra accompaniments under the summer sky. Rudetsky will also share behind-the-scenes anecdotes about landmark productions, offering rare insights into Broadway’s history.

Seth Rudetsky: Bridging Two Worlds

Rudetsky’s career spans performing, writing and advocacy. A graduate of Mannes College of Music, he co-wrote the satire Romance in Hard Times and hosts charitable livestreams under “Stars in the House.” In an Instagram post celebrating his Local 802 membership, he wrote, “Proud of my union. Thank you Tino and Bruce! #Local802,” underscoring his commitment to musician rights offstage as well as on.

From Parque Mayer To Global Bows

Set amid vintage theatre marquees and summer skies, Parque Mayer will be transformed into a Broadway-style venue with proscenium lighting and tiered seating. Once home to Lisbon’s revue theatres, the district now hosts contemporary performances, making it a fitting backdrop for this festival. Cultural officials note the event’s potential to boost tourism and affirm Lisbon’s standing as a performing-arts destination.

Community Outreach And Workshops

Daytime programming includes free masterclasses for emerging performers, hosted by Rudetsky and his colleagues. Aspiring singers can learn audition tips from Callaway, while Fontana leads sessions on character interpretation. The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) will award scholarships to young Portuguese artists, reinforcing the festival’s educational mission.

Safety Measures And Local Support

Health protocols align with municipal guidelines: outdoor seating zones, on-site sanitization stations and optional mask areas. Lisbon City Hall and local parish councils have arranged extended metro service for evening shows. Nearby heritage hotels offer special Broadway No Parque accommodation packages, highlighting the event’s role in bolstering the local economy.

Broadway No Parque’s third edition promises three nights of unmissable performances, emotional ballads and showstopping choreography. Whether you’re a lifelong theatre enthusiast or seeking a spectacular summer outing, this event brings global and local talents together under Lisbon’s midsummer sky. Don’t miss the chance to be part of a truly historic celebration of musical theatre.
