Grammy‐nominated R&B artist Ledisi made her debut last night at Columbia, South Carolina’s storied Township Auditorium, delivering a powerful set that fused her career highlights with fresh material from her Love You Too Tour.
Historic Debut In Columbia
Built in 1930 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Township Auditorium welcomed Ledisi for the first time, its vaulted ceilings and art deco façade serving as a dramatic backdrop. She opened with her 2007 hit “Goin’ Thru Changes,” her rich alto filling the hall; the audience rose from their seats, singing along by the second chorus. Midway through the show, she paused to greet front‐row fan Andrew by name—“Great meeting you, Andrew!” she called out—eliciting cheers and high‐fives.
The stage design honored the venue’s vintage elegance: velvet drapes framed warm amber lighting, and a live band of horns, keys, bass, and percussion underscored every riff. Ledisi shifted seamlessly between upbeat grooves and stripped‐down ballads, spotlighting two tracks from her 2023 album The Crown—a funk‐inflected title song and a reflective ballad that showcased her jazz roots. Audience members swayed in unison; during the piano‐led “Alright,” they lit the darkened auditorium with phone flashlights.
Venue executive Kreg Keener praised the performance: “Ledisi’s voice and stage presence brought new energy to this historic space. It was a night to remember.” Fans echoed that sentiment, lining up afterwards at the merchandise table for tour T-shirts and vinyl copies of The Crown.
Instagram Highlights
Following the show, Ledisi shared a carousel of backstage and onstage snapshots on Instagram, crediting photographer Ron T. Young. One image captures the artist embracing Andrew under the marquee lights; another frames her belting a powerful chorus into a vintage microphone. In her caption, she wrote, “You had me at hello!” and tagged the venue’s handle. (Embed Instagram Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/DKrcbEvMgLM/)
