A Star Guitarist Emerges

Jason Momoa stepped off the big screen and onto the stage last night at The Bungalow in Santa Monica, trading his Aquaman trident for a bass guitar. In an Instagram caption, the band’s creative collective Pride of Gypsies wrote, “Still buzzing from last night. 🤘🎸 Our community knows how to show up and rock out! Endless thanks to @prideofgypsies @oof_tatata @meilivodka and all the vendors + friends who made it one for the books. #MeetMeAtTheBungalow.” Fans responded in kind, filling the garden patio under string lights and cheering every riff.

Born in Honolulu and raised in Norwalk, Momoa first made waves as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones before cementing his superhero status in the DC Universe. But music has long been a passion: he formed Oof Tatata in 2021 and has since shared the stage with friends like Pride of Gypsies. Last night’s lineup kicked off with a lively set by the Americana-rock collective, then handed over to Momoa and Oof Tatata for a full-throttle encore.

Community Cheers On The Rock Show

The band opened with a blistering rendition of a classic blues riff, Momoa’s heavy bass pulsing through the speakers. Close-up shots from the crowd show him grinning behind his long hair, fingers flying across the fretboard. Attendees danced on the lawn, cocktails in hand, as Meili Vodka provided a spirited tasting station. Local vendors offered tacos, craft brews and handcrafted goods, turning a simple concert into a pop-up festival.

One fan posted a photo of Momoa mid-solo, captioned: “When your favorite hero becomes your favorite bassist.” Another shared a video of the crowd singing along, smartphones held high. The energy built to a climax when Oof Tatata’s frontman invited Momoa center stage for a surprise guitar duet—an unannounced moment that brought the house down.

“It felt incredible to play in front of so many supporters,” Momoa told us backstage. “I grew up loving live music, and getting to share that with this community is a dream come true.” His easygoing charm shone through, even as the stage lights bathed him in warm orange and blue hues.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

This isn’t the first time Momoa has hit The Bungalow for a free community show. An Instagram post from June 2022 recalls, “In honor of @oof_tatata performing at the @thebungalowsm tomorrow night 🤟🏽 This was last year around the same time! If you’re in the area it’s a free show, go check them out.” Back then, a smaller crowd gathered for an afternoon set; last night’s sold-out evening show demonstrates how Momoa’s musical side continues to draw attention.

Pride of Gypsies, known for their desert-rock anthems and vibrant visual style, helped curate the lineup and handled production. The collective has worked with Momoa on multiple creative projects, blurring lines between music, art and community events. Their shared Instagram feed is peppered with snapshots of rehearsals, vintage instruments and sunset jam sessions on Malibu cliffs.

Partners included Meili Vodka, which served signature cocktails in branded tumblers, and local artisans who sold handmade jewelry and posters. Momoa made it a point to visit each vendor booth, thanking them for making the night possible. In the final song, Oof Tatata led a call-and-response chant: “Meet me at the Bungalow,” sending the audience into one last roar.

Momoa’s rise in Hollywood has been meteoric—roles in Conan the Barbarian, Aquaman and the upcoming Netflix series Chief of War have cemented his A-list status. Yet he remains grounded in community-driven projects, from environmental advocacy for World Oceans Day to benefit concerts for local causes.

As the lights went down, fans lingered on the patio, reluctant to leave the warm glow and soundtrack of guitars. The actor-turned-bassist waved goodbye, promising more music ahead.

The night proved that when Hollywood’s hardest-working man picks up an instrument, the crowd shows up in force. Momoa’s performance at The Bungalow wasn’t just a celebrity cameo—it was a genuine collaboration between artist and audience, and a highlight of this summer’s live-music lineup.
