Detroit’s Hitech Storms Turbo

Detroit-based trio HiTech Detroit delivered a full-throttle takeover of London’s legendary Turbo venue this weekend. In an Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ-Bj-8AQW6/), the group—comprising King Milo, Milf Melly and 47Chops—declared “THE RIGHT TURBO TIME / THE RIGHT TURBO PLACE / #LONDON WE ARE INSIDE OF YOU,” capturing a series of vibrant shots from inside a packed dancefloor.

The images show strobe-lit DJs, airborne confetti and euphoric clubbers moving to the trio’s signature blend of Miami bass, 2 Live Crew–style call-and-response vocals and speed-driven techno beats. One frame zeroes in on King Milo at the decks, eyes closed, fingers dancing across knobs as the crowd goes wild. Another focuses on Milf Melly hyping the front row via a handheld mic, while 47Chops commands bass-heavy drops from the booth.

The Turbo event is London’s latest epicenter for underground electronic music, and HiTech’s presence signaled a notable moment for ghetto tech’s global revival. Local fans packed the venue from opening to close, proving the Detroit sound still resonates across the Atlantic.

Photographers captured a packed warehouse space where neon lights swept over a sea of dancers. King Milo wore a reflective bomber jacket under flickering LEDs, while Milf Melly’s performance outfit paired thigh-high boots with metallic shorts. Fans crowded the stage edge, smartphones raised as the trio dropped tracks from their new mixtape HONEYPAQQ Vol. 1 and teased unreleased collaborations.

Event producer dotwavnotwave kicked off the night with a warm-up set, giving way to HiTech’s hyperactive tempo. The party continued past midnight, fueled by unlimited Henny shots and impromptu rap freestyles. Onlookers described it as “the best underground rave London’s seen this year.”

Reviving Ghettotech’s Global Pulse

Although HiTech Detroit formed only in 2022, the group has swiftly become a torchbearer for Detroit’s late-’80s and early-’00s ghetto tech scene. An earlier Instagram post (https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ9hrz8v60E/) explained:

“HiTech have helped usher a revival of ghettotech: With hyperspeed rhythms, bawdy call-and-response inspired by 2 Live Crew and Miami bass, and sticky techno melodies… HONEYPAQQ Vol. 1 feels like that transition to cybernetic dancefloor ultraefficiency.”

That mixtape, released in May, has drawn praise from DJ Mag’s Recognise series and earned HiTech spots at Movement Festival in Detroit and Boiler Room showcases. In London, they’ve tapped into a young crowd hungry for fresh takes on retro-club sounds.

Industry insiders say HiTech’s success lies in their DIY ethos: they design their own visuals, shoot viral video skits between sets and engage fans directly through bold captions and behind-the-scenes footage. Their “I AIN’T GON’ FRONT, THAT ASS LOOKS LIKE A BIG BISCUIT” taglines have become a rallying cry at rave after-parties.

Beyond London, the trio is slated for appearances at Warehouse Project in Manchester and NADÓ in Barcelona later this summer. They’ve also hinted at a full-length album to follow HONEYPAQQ Vol. 1.

Fans and critics agree: HiTech Detroit isn’t just reviving an old genre—they’re rewriting its future, one high-temp beat at a time.

As the final bass drop echoed through Turbo, the group’s message rang clear: Detroit’s ghettotech remains a force to be reckoned with, and London is only the beginning.
