Dead & Company Head To Golden Gate Park For Three Nights
Dead & Company, the beloved folk-rock outfit continuing the Grateful Dead legacy, is set to return to San Francisco for three headline performances at the Polo Field in Golden Gate Park from August 1 to 3. Fans can expect each night to open with up to 75 minutes of special guest sets, with bluegrass phenom Billy Strings kicking off the weekend on Friday, August 1; Grammy winner Sturgill “Johnny Blue Skies” Simpson on Saturday, August 2; and the Trey Anastasio Band concluding the run on Sunday, August 3.
Special Guest Opening Acts
Friday’s opener brings Billy Strings, known for his virtuosic guitar skills and high-octane stage presence. On Saturday, Sturgill Simpson will showcase songs from his acclaimed “Johnny Blue Skies” project, blending psychedelic rock and country influences. Finally, Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and his band will deliver an electrifying performance to close out the weekend.
Band Legacy And Bobby Weir’s Role
Dead & Company formed in 2015 when former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir (guitar, vocals), Mickey Hart (drums), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums) joined forces with John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti, and Oteil Burbridge. Bob Weir—a founding member of the Grateful Dead since 1965—continues to anchor the group’s sound. Born Robert Hall Weir on October 16, 1947, in San Francisco, Weir’s rhythm guitar and distinctive tenor vocals helped define the Grateful Dead’s improvisational style.
In a recent Instagram throwback, Weir celebrated the conclusion of the Dead & Company #DeadForever tour, posting “Shine on, glowing, brief and brightly… What a ride! Thank you for another incredible run.” The post included onstage snapshots and moments of crew camaraderie. (Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/DJzj7ejRjEj/)
