Tonight’s a special one! I’ll be sharing an intimate evening with some amazing people for an exclusive first listen of my upcoming EP ‘Love Lost’. Can’t wait to share this music with you all soon 🤎 #lovelost
A Night For Fans
Actor and singer Algee Smith transformed a downtown Los Angeles studio into a private listening lounge last night. Close friends, fellow artists and music insiders gathered under dimmed lights to hear the first full plays of his forthcoming R&B collection. Smith opened the evening with a warm welcome, inviting guests to grab a drink and settle in for an unfiltered experience of each track.
Behind The Music
Smith has been teasing his debut EP since early spring. Built on smooth grooves and earnest lyrics, ‘Love Lost’ explores heartbreak, self-discovery and hope. In a still from his Instagram announcement, he’s captured mid-mic, flanked by producers and songwriters, headset on and eyes closed—fully immersed in the creative process. A second image shows him sharing a laugh with a small group, capturing the camaraderie that fueled these sessions.
From Screen To Studio
Best known for roles in The Hate U Give and HBO’s Euphoria, the Detroit-born talent first earned acclaim on screen before turning seriously to music. According to his Wikipedia profile, Smith has drawn on his acting chops to craft vivid storytelling in song. Over the past year he’s worked with established R&B producers, blending classic soul influences with modern production. Tonight’s showcase marks his official transition from actor to recording artist.
Teasers And Singles
In recent weeks, Smith has steadily lifted the curtain on ‘Love Lost’. One Instagram post read, “In every lyric and melody, I’m meeting parts of me I thought were lost. This is my story. soon, it’s yours too.” (https://www.instagram.com/p/DJSaj5Kho_Q/) Another celebration of his second single “Honest” saw him joking about mixing a special drink for fans: “Comment what y’all would put in y’all drink if you wanted to be honest.” These posts, tagged #lovelost and #newmusic, offered fans raw studio snapshots and glimpses of his songwriting process.
The live event featured four unheard tracks and the already-released “Honest,” a song that blends confessional verses with a warm, melodic hook. As the final chords faded, Smith took questions—discussing his writing inspirations, why vulnerability drives him, and what he hopes listeners take away. Multiple attendees praised the emotional depth and sonic cohesion of the EP.
Fans can expect ‘Love Lost’ to arrive on streaming platforms next month. Ahead of that date, Smith plans to drop a music video for one of the new songs, directed by long-time collaborator Jordan Tortorello, who also shot the visuals for “Honest.”
Looking around the studio after the last track, it was clear this was more than a listening party—it was the launch of a new creative chapter. As Smith told his guests, “This is just the beginning.”
