Adam Levy, the accomplished session guitarist whose golden touch has elevated recordings by Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman and Lizz Wright, is stepping into the spotlight with his new solo album, Household. Set for release on June 4, 2025, the record finds Levy exploring uncharted musical territory, blending jazz sensibilities with electronic flourishes and a deep sense of collaboration.
Recording And Production
Household was born at Tibet Hill Studios in Tehachapi, California. Levy teamed up with producer and fellow guitarist Chris Bruce—whose credits include Meshell Ndegeocello and Seal—and engineer Lynne Earls. Over a series of intimate sessions, the pair crafted a sound that “resists the temptation to show off and instead builds a world, track by track, where nuance, tone, and collaboration carry the story,” as Levy noted in his album announcement.
Collaborators And Sound
Rather than a solo guitar tour de force, Household unfolds as a collective statement. Saxophonist and electronics artist Josh Johnson adds textural color, while bassist Alan Hampton and drummer Griffin Goldsmith lock in rhythms that shift from laid-back grooves to punchy interludes. The interplay between Levy and Bruce’s guitars provides a warm foundation, giving each track its own character—whether it’s a smoky late-night ballad or an upbeat tune that hints at funk and soul.
Single Release And Artwork
Levy has already offered a taste of Household via the second single, “Charm School,” released on his Bandcamp page and all major streaming platforms. In an Instagram post, he listed the lineup—Levy and Bruce on guitars, Johnson on saxophone and electronics, Hampton on bass and Goldsmith on drums and percussion—and credited the recording and mixing to Lynne Earls. The visual identity for Household comes courtesy of designer Brian Manley, using imagery captured by photographer Ross W. Mayfield.
About Adam Levy
Born September 19, 1970, in Encino, California, Adam Levy attended Berklee College of Music before launching a career as a versatile sideman. He joined Norah Jones’s band in the early 2000s, contributing to her breakthrough album, Come Away With Me, then toured and recorded with Tracy Chapman and Lizz Wright. Levy’s previous solo outings—Get Your Glow On (2009) and Everything Happens (2018)—hinted at his compositional strengths; Household marks his most adventurous statement yet.
Fans who caught Levy’s recent gigs at Brooklyn’s Bar Bayeux will recognize the chemistry he’s built with bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Joe Dyson. But on Household, Levy expands his sonic palette, incorporating subtle electronic elements and bold production choices from Bruce. Early reviews praise the album’s seamless melding of genres—jazz, ambient electronica and singer-songwriter warmth—pointing to an artist in full command of his craft.
With Household’s June 4 release date approaching, listeners can expect a record that rewards careful attention. Levy’s approach is less about flash and more about atmosphere, crafting each track like a chapter in a broader musical narrative. For aficionados of guitar-driven music and genre-blending jazz alike, Household promises a rich, repeat-listen experience.
