Legendary comedian and cannabis culture icon Tommy Chong took to Instagram to share his delight after attending the Ann Arbor Hash Bash, expressing his enthusiasm for the experience and anticipation for future visits.

“Hey, man, I had the best time @annarborhashbash 💨🌳 Thanks for having me! I can’t wait to come back again,” Chong posted on his Instagram account (@heytommychong), accompanied by a video of himself at the event.

The Ann Arbor Hash Bash is one of America’s longest-running cannabis festivals, having started in 1972 in response to the Michigan Supreme Court declaring the state’s marijuana laws unconstitutional. The event typically takes place in early April at the University of Michigan’s Diag and has evolved from a protest into a celebration, particularly since Michigan legalized recreational marijuana in 2018.

For Tommy Chong, attending such an event aligns perfectly with his decades-long identity as one of the most recognizable cannabis advocates in entertainment.

Chong’s recent social media activity reveals he’s been actively promoting the new documentary alongside Cheech Marin. In a recent Los Angeles Times interview he shared on Instagram, Chong addressed whether this truly is the final film for the iconic duo.

“God only knows,” Chong said in the interview. “It all depends on the script. Everything depends on the script.”

The documentary explores the legendary duo’s career trajectory and their reunion after a contentious creative split four decades ago. While the title suggests finality, both comedians have been somewhat ambiguous about whether they might collaborate again in the future.

In another recent post, Chong announced that he and Marin were participating in an “Ask Us Anything” session on Reddit, inviting fans to “ask about our lives, careers, or new movie and we’ll do our best to remember things. Just no math please.”

The timing of Chong’s Ann Arbor Hash Bash appearance coincides with the April 20 release of the documentary, which premiered with special 4:20 PM showings at theaters across the country. Several of his recent posts highlight the film’s promotional events, including special fan screenings with vendor pop-ups, photo opportunities, and festive activities.

On April 20th itself, Chong simply posted “Happy 4/20, man 🌋💨🌳” to his followers, acknowledging the unofficial holiday celebrated by cannabis enthusiasts worldwide.

For longtime fans of the comedian, seeing Chong continue to embrace and advocate for cannabis culture while maintaining his signature laid-back humor is reminiscent of the characters that made him famous. His enthusiasm for events like the Ann Arbor Hash Bash demonstrates his ongoing commitment to the cannabis community that has supported him throughout his career.

Whether this truly is the “last movie” for the iconic duo or not, Chong clearly isn’t slowing down when it comes to engaging with fans and attending events that celebrate the counterculture he helped define.
