Actress and activist Rosario Dawson has announced her documentary ‘Kiss My Grass’ will make its world premiere at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in June 2025. The project, which focuses on Black women entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry, represents years of collaborative work and aims to address representation gaps in mainstream business narratives.
In her announcement posted on Instagram, Dawson explained the documentary’s purpose: “For too long, the voices of Black women entrepreneurs have been ignored or diminished in mainstream industries. @kissmygrassdoc is our response to that.”
The images shared in the post reveal production stills from the documentary, featuring interviews with various subjects against professional backdrops. Several shots show Dawson herself engaged in conversation with participants, highlighting her hands-on role in the project beyond just executive producing.
Dawson emphasized the thoughtful approach taken during production: “We approached this project with patience, compassion, and deep respect which is how we hope it will resonate with audiences. It’s been a slow and thoughtful build, but every step has made the final product that much more meaningful.”
The documentary represents a team effort with several notable collaborators. Dawson serves as an executive producer alongside Colin Kaepernick, Mary Pryor (who also co-directs), Nick Whiteman, and Hilary Yu. Comedian and writer Roy Wood Jr. joined the project as both writer and co-producer.
The Tribeca Film Festival, co-founded by Robert De Niro in 2002, has grown into one of the most respected film festivals in the United States. Having ‘Kiss My Grass’ premiere at this venue gives the documentary significant visibility within the film industry and among audiences interested in social justice documentaries.
Dawson encouraged followers to “secure your ticket starting April 29th and be part of the conversation,” suggesting the documentary aims not just to inform but to spark dialogue about representation and opportunity in emerging industries.
As tickets for the Tribeca screening become available on April 29th, audiences will soon have the opportunity to see this years-in-the-making project that seeks to bring visibility to entrepreneurs who have historically been sidelined in both cannabis conversations and mainstream business narratives.
