Josh Meyers Joins ‘rise Of The Footsoldier’ Sequel

Josh Meyers, best known for his stints on MADtv and films like Date Night, has been spotted on-location in Essex shooting the latest installment of the Rise of the Footsoldier franchise. In a recent Instagram post, Meyers tagged co-stars Craig Fairbrass, Nick Nevern, G.M. Russo and Terry Stone alongside the official Footsoldier handle, pointing fans to the gritty new chapter.

On-location Camaraderie

Behind-the-scenes snaps show Meyers in relaxed conversation with Fairbrass, Nevern and the team, all decked out in period-appropriate gear. The shared laugh and casual poses hint at the tight-knit atmosphere on set, even as the cast tackles intense fight sequences and dramatic stakes. One such photo (see featured image) captures the group walking through a rain-dampened street—readying for the next take.

Insights From An Old Post

An earlier Instagram share offers a taste of that bond. In a captioned snap, Meyers wrote, “Me and my mate @craigjfairbrass #actors #riseofthefootsoldier #film #movie 🎬🎥,” reminding followers that this project has been in the works for weeks. That throwback clip, showing the two actors sharing a light moment before action, underscores the friendship that drives much of the sequel’s on-screen chemistry.

What Meyers Brings To The Table

According to his Wikipedia profile, Joshua Meyers first rose to fame on MTV’s Punk’d before joining Fox’s MADtv cast from 2004–2008. He later transitioned to film roles, appearing in Date Night (2010), Mean Girls 2 (2011) and a voice part in Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole (2010). Now, he’s stepping into the brutal world of East London’s criminal underbelly—a stark departure from his previous satirical and comedic turns.

Director Nick Nevern, who also plays a lead role, praised Meyers in an interview with ScreenDaily for his dedication to stunt work and character depth. “Josh tackled every fight sequence with real commitment,” Nevern noted. “He brought a fresh intensity to the ensemble, which is exactly what this series needed.”

Setting And Style

Filming has moved between gritty urban streets of Southend-on-Sea and warehouse interiors staged to mimic 1990s Essex backdrops. Costume designer Sarah Wilton told Variety that the team sourced authentic period jackets, boots and hairstyles to ground the film in its time period. “Our goal was raw realism,” Wilton explained, “so every leather jacket, cap and scar felt lived-in.” Meyers can be seen in several shots adjusting his character’s jacket before rolling cameras.

What’s Next For The Sequel

While an official release date hasn’t been announced, insiders tell Deadline that post-production is slated to wrap by late fall, with a planned early-2025 premiere. Producers promise more high-octane fight choreography, deeper character arcs and a darker look at gangland loyalties. With stars like Fairbrass and Terry Stone returning, and fresh faces such as Meyers energizing the cast, expectations are high among franchise fans.

As filming continues through the summer across Essex and London, followers can expect more behind-the-scenes content on the official Rise of the Footsoldier Instagram, as well as updates from Meyers himself at @joshmyers1986.

The crew’s dedication to authenticity and the cast’s apparent camaraderie suggest that this sequel will deliver the same blend of brutal action and character-driven drama that made the original a cult hit.

Fans should stay tuned for teaser trailers, red carpet announcements and festival screenings in the coming months. Until then, these candid on-location snapshots offer the first peek at Meyers and company diving deep into the Footsoldier universe.
