Ian Somerhalder has announced the successful launch of his environmental documentary “Common Ground” on Amazon Prime Video, marking the culmination of what appears to be a years-long passion project for the actor-turned-environmental activist.

In a celebratory Instagram post, Somerhalder shared the news while expressing gratitude to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his team for making the release possible.

“EARTH DAY CONCLUDED. @commongroundfilm on @primevideo NOW,” Somerhalder wrote in his enthusiastic caption. “Thank you @jeffbezos and your amazing team for making this happen.”

The former “Vampire Diaries” star urged his followers to watch the film, promising it would be life-changing and offer “a ray of hope that will propel us into the future.” The documentary appears focused on regenerative agriculture and its potential as a solution to climate issues.

In his post, Somerhalder outlined an ambitious vision: “One that creates a bright future. One that creates a world with a balanced climate and a robust $TRILLION DOLLAR PER YEAR GLOBAL carbon-capture food economy.”

The actor appears convinced that regenerative agricultural practices showcased in the film could revolutionize both climate action and the economy, adding, “We can THRIVE. We got this.”

This release comes after significant promotion from Somerhalder, who in previous posts described waiting 14 years for this moment. In an earlier Instagram post, he wrote: “TODAY IS THE DAY OUR LIVES CHANGE. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST AND WATCH OUR FILM @commongroundfilm!”

“Common Ground” appears to be a companion to another environmental documentary titled “Kiss the Ground,” which Somerhalder also promoted. Both films are now available on Prime Video and focus on regenerative agriculture as a solution to environmental challenges.

The actor has been actively sharing his journey promoting the films, including morning news appearances in Los Angeles. In a post from Earth Day (April 22), he announced both films became available globally on Prime Video, encouraging followers to “celebrate and watch Common Ground and Kiss The Ground” and “spread the word of regenerative agriculture.”

According to Somerhalder’s previous posts, the documentary features several high-profile names. An Earth Day live Q&A for the film’s launch included directors Josh and Becca Tickell, along with Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Jason Momoa, Sadhguru, Dr. Mark Hyman, Jason Mraz, and others.

The 45-year-old actor has been increasingly focused on environmental activism in recent years. Born in Louisiana, Somerhalder gained fame through his roles in TV shows like “Lost” and “The Vampire Diaries,” but has since pivoted to environmental causes and business ventures aligned with sustainability.

Beyond filmmaking, Somerhalder has ventured into the wellness space as co-founder of The Absorption Company (branded as @absorb.more), which creates supplements with a focus on bioavailability and soil health. In a recent podcast appearance on “The Art of Being Well,” he discussed the connection between soil health and gut health, themes that likely appear in his documentary.

In January, he announced that his company’s products had launched at Erewhon Market, an upscale health food chain in Los Angeles.

Somerhalder has been building a multi-faceted approach to his environmental mission, even sharing in recent posts about his decision to begin flying a Cirrus aircraft to more efficiently bring his environmental message to wider audiences while building his companies.

With the release of “Common Ground” on Prime Video, Somerhalder appears to have reached a significant milestone in his environmental advocacy journey, inviting viewers to join what he clearly sees as a movement toward regenerative practices and climate solutions.

The actor concluded his announcement post with an invitation for engagement: “DROP A COMMENT AFTER YOU’VE SEEN EITHER MOVIE,” suggesting he’s eager to hear audience reactions to the documentaries he’s championed.
