Q&a Event At Kiln Theatre
Kiln Theatre in London has announced a special live Q&A on Sunday, 22 June at 3:30 pm featuring BAFTA-nominated star Daryl McCormack alongside double Academy Award winner Emma Thompson. Hosted by Downton Abbey alum Jim Carter, the event follows a screening of the critically acclaimed film Good Luck To You, Leo Grande.
Meet The Talent: Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson is one of the few artists to have won Academy Awards for both acting and writing. She earned Best Actress for her role in Howard’s End (1992) and Best Adapted Screenplay for Sense and Sensibility (1995). Over her four-decade career, Thompson has balanced blockbuster hits like Nanny McPhee with deeply human dramas such as Primary Colors and Love Actually. Her appearance at Kiln comes just months after Thompson reunited with director Stephen Frears for a new indie project slated to premiere later this year.
Bafta Nominee Daryl Mccormack
Irish actor Daryl McCormack rose to prominence playing Marcus in the BBC series Peaky Blinders. In 2022, he starred opposite Thompson in Good Luck To You, Leo Grande, earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Born in Cork in December 1993, McCormack trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He has since appeared in stage productions of The Tragedy of Macbeth and gained praise for his lead role in the film Rogue Agent. Earlier this year, McCormack walked the red carpet at the BAFTA 2024 ceremony, sharing photos on Instagram with the simple caption “BAFTA 24.”
Host Jim Carter
Jim Carter, best known for portraying Mr. Carson in Downton Abbey, will moderate the discussion. A veteran of stage and screen, Carter’s credits include The King’s Speech, The Invisible Woman, and a celebrated West End turn in Man and Superman. Audiences at Kiln can expect Carter’s trademark wit and warmth as he poses audience questions to Thompson and McCormack.
Good Luck To You, Leo Grande Screening
Directed by Sophie Hyde and written by Katy Brand, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande follows a retired schoolteacher (Thompson) who hires a young sex worker (McCormack) to explore intimacy and self-discovery. Critics hailed the film for its candid dialogue and the chemistry between its leads. The screening at Kiln will be followed immediately by the live Q&A, giving ticket holders a rare chance to engage directly with the cast and creative team.
Tickets And Event Details
Tickets went on sale via the Kiln Theatre website and are expected to sell out quickly. Patrons can submit questions in advance through the theatre’s box office or ask questions in person on the day. The event is part of Kiln’s summer season, which also includes talkbacks with directors, cast meet-and-greets, and screenings of independent films.
Whether you’re a Thompson superfan, intrigued by McCormack’s breakthrough turn, or simply curious about the art of intimate storytelling on film, this Q&A promises insights and anecdotes from three celebrated performers. Don’t miss the chance to see these award-winning talents live at Kiln Theatre this June.
