Barcelona is rolling out the red carpet for emerging talent. The Love & Hope International Film Festival (L’HIFF) returns October 1–4, 2025 in Spain’s cultural capital, and submissions are officially open—just don’t miss the late deadline on July 31, 2025.

Festival Details & Submission Info

L’HIFF invites short and feature-length storytellers to take part in four days of screenings, masterclasses and industry events at Barcelona’s historic Cinema Maldà. Filmmakers can apply through FilmFreeway or Festhome, with a discounted early-bird rate running until July 31. Late entries will still be accepted up to that date, so production companies and indie auteurs have two extra months to polish their reels.

Key Dates:
• Festival Dates: October 1–4, 2025
• Early Deadline: July 31, 2025
• Submission Platforms: filmfreeway.com/LHIFFESTIVAL; filmmakers.festhome.com/festival/6980

Darwin Reina’s Role & Cannes Connection

Festival ambassador Darwin Reina (@darwinreina) has been a driving force behind L’HIFF’s international growth. In May 2025, he represented the fest’s delegation at the Festival de Cannes’ Marché du Film—spotlighting L’HIFF alum El Desaire, a Mexican drama by Gabriel Ramos seeking distribution. Reina’s Cannes highlights included “Behind the Velvet of Cannes,” a short he produced for Sanelle The Filmmaker, and networking alongside @thenorthfilmfest and @lafantasiafest delegates.

Reina says: “Barcelona’s blend of art, architecture and Mediterranean energy makes it the perfect backdrop for L’HIFF. We’re looking for bold voices—stories that spark hope, inspire action and connect communities.”

What To Expect At L’hiff Barcelona

• Screenings: Selected films will play in a state-of-the-art auditorium, with Q&As and juried awards.
• Workshops & Masterclasses: Sessions led by industry pros in cinematography, screenwriting and distribution.
• Networking Events: Evening mixers, pitch sessions and co-production meetings tailored to indie creators.
• Cultural Tours: Guided visits to Gaudí landmarks, local markets and film sets across the city.

Past festival highlights include breakout shorts that went on to screen at Tribeca and Venice. Alumni have secured distribution deals in North America and Europe, benefiting from L’HIFF’s partnerships with Stage 32, Final Draft and IMDb.

How To Apply

Filmmakers should prepare a PDF package: synopsis, director’s statement, film link and technical specs. Entry fees vary by category, with discounts for student filmmakers and panels on financing. All submissions undergo blind review by an international jury.

Spanish applications are open, too: the festival’s bilingual promo reads, “Festival Internacional de Cine Amor & Esperanza – Barcelona. ¡Prepárate para el 1–4 de octubre de 2025! Inscripciones abiertas con descuento hasta el 31 de julio.”

Don’t let your story miss its moment. Whether you’ve crafted a vérité doc, a sci-fi short or a narrative feature, L’HIFF’s Barcelona showcase is a prime opportunity to reach critics, distributors and cinephiles.

Barcelona’s art house spirit awaits fresh talent. Submit by July 31 and join a global community dedicated to hope, empathy and cinematic creativity.
