Harry Connick Jr., the multi-talented musician and New Orleans native, recently took to Instagram to share his deep appreciation for his hometown’s resilience during Jazz Fest season. The Grammy-winning artist posted a throwback image that captures the essence of New Orleans’ enduring spirit and rich musical heritage.

“During jazz fest season I’m always reminded of how resilient nola is. #throwback #ellismarsaliscenterformusic #jazzfest,” Connick wrote in his caption, referring to his beloved New Orleans by its nickname, NOLA.

The Instagram image shows Connick at what appears to be the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, a cultural institution named after his mentor, the late jazz pianist Ellis Marsalis Jr., who was a pivotal figure in New Orleans’ jazz education community and father to celebrated musicians Wynton and Branford Marsalis.

The timing of Connick’s post aligns with the excitement building around the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, commonly known as Jazz Fest, one of the most significant cultural events in the city. In a previous post from mid-April, Connick expressed his anticipation for the festival, writing, “jazz fest is HOME… cannot wait! t-minus 15 days! #jazzfest.”

For Connick, Jazz Fest represents more than just a music festival—it’s a celebration of New Orleans’ cultural resilience and musical legacy. His connection to the event runs deep, as he has been both an attendee and performer throughout his career.

In another recent Instagram post, Connick reminisced about his time with Booker, writing, “jazz fest memories with the legend himself, james booker. what a time, what a teacher, what a musician. can’t wait to be back. t-minus 3 weeks til jazz fest! #jazzmonth #jamesbooker.”

Connick’s commitment to New Orleans’ recovery after Hurricane Katrina exemplifies the resilience he celebrates in his post. He was instrumental in relief efforts, including the televised benefit concert “A Concert for Hurricane Relief,” which raised millions for storm victims.

In a March Instagram post, Connick acknowledged the ongoing support from corporate partners, writing, “thanks Tim Cook, @lisapjackson and @apple for always being there for @EMCMNola and for #neworleans – we won’t forget it!” The post highlights his continued dedication to the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music (EMCMNola) and its mission.

Throughout April, which is recognized as Jazz Appreciation Month, Connick has been sharing various posts celebrating the genre and its New Orleans roots. In one such post, he shared music from his album “25,” which featured collaborations with Ellis Marsalis, writing, “from my album ’25,’ with my hero, ellis marsalis…”

Another post captured the essence of New Orleans’ musical spirit with the caption, “if you can’t make it to new orleans, let the music take you there 🎷 #jazzmonth.”

Amid the Jazz Fest celebrations, Connick has also marked significant personal milestones. In recent posts, he celebrated his wife Jill Goodacre’s birthday, writing, “❤️🎂🎂🎂BIRTHDAY GIRL!!!🎂🎂🎂❤️ i love getting caught in the rain with you 😀 happy birthday, jill #happybirthday.” He also commemorated their 31st wedding anniversary, sharing, “happy anniversary to my sweet jilly ❤️❤️❤️ 31 years with you!!! here’s to the next 31 😀😀😀 ily 😘.”
