Ford Performance is adding a dose of humor to the racing scene with its latest teaser, introducing fans to Bern and Herb — two hilariously over-the-top “seasoned” rookies with a need for speed… and bifocals.

In a recent Instagram post, the official Ford Performance page shared a short clip from the upcoming video, featuring actor-turned-NASCAR driver Frankie Muniz and drifting champion James Deane in full geriatric get-up — gray hair, glasses, and walking sticks — with the caption: “Meet Bern and Herb: Two ‘seasoned’ rookies with a need for speed… and bifocals. #DriversInDisguise.” The full video is set to drop tomorrow.

Balancing Racing And Acting

This lighthearted project comes during an incredibly busy period for Muniz, who is currently juggling his NASCAR racing career with his return to acting for the highly anticipated Malcolm in the Middle reboot.

In recent Instagram updates, Muniz has been documenting his packed schedule. Just days ago, he shared: “Back in Vancouver from Bristol. Start shooting Malcolm tomorrow!! Really want to share all the things going on in life lately and will find some time to do that soon.” The actor completed the table read for the Malcolm reboot and immediately shifted gears to compete at Bristol.

Muniz’s return to the iconic sitcom that made him a household name has generated significant excitement among fans. In another recent post from Mexico, he noted: “Crazy to me how many people here still love Malcolm in the Middle so much. I can’t wait for everyone to see the new episodes!”

Racing Career In Full Swing

While preparing for his acting comeback, Muniz has been actively pursuing his racing dreams. He competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, driving the Ford F-150 for Rette Jones Racing. His racing journey has seen both triumphs and challenges, with Muniz recently reflecting on his first five races of the season.

“The highs of a top 10 at Daytona are so high, and the lows of an unfortunate mechanical issue at Martinsville are pretty low,” he shared. “But that’s what fuels you to keep going back and fighting harder. I realized I have to step it up big time in qualifying. I’m ready for the challenge.”

The 38-year-old has been transparent about the difficulties of competing at NASCAR’s high level, noting after a recent race at Bristol: “Bristol was not what we were going for. No practice or qualifying was obviously not ideal. I love my team @rbr_teams and we are all working really hard. We’ll be ready to prove it next week.”

Life Beyond The Track

Outside of his professional commitments, Muniz is also a dedicated family man. He recently celebrated his wife Paige’s birthday with a heartfelt post looking back at their nine years together. “Every laugh, every tear, every adventure since has only made me more grateful for that day… And for my wife Paige,” he wrote.

Muniz also mentioned his son’s recent birthday celebration in Miami, where they were joined by family members who “sure made him feel so special.” When not racing or filming, Muniz enjoys spending time with his wife exploring on their electric bikes, which he says “go almost everywhere with us.”

Muniz first gained fame as the title character in Malcolm in the Middle (2000-2006), earning Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his performance. After the show ended, he pursued various interests including racing, with competitive stints in the Atlantic Championship series before his current NASCAR career.

The upcoming “Drivers In Disguise” video appears to be a fun side project that combines his passions for both entertainment and racing, showcasing Muniz’s versatility and sense of humor as he continues to navigate his multi-faceted career.

For fans of both Muniz’s acting and racing endeavors, tomorrow’s full video release promises to deliver laughs as Bern and Herb take to the track with their senior citizen racing antics.
