Event Announcement

On Saturday, May 24 at 9:30 AM, Chicago native Zion Ali will take the stage as guest performer at the Greater Bronzeville Community Action Council’s Student Recognition Breakfast, hosted at King College Prep High School (4445 S. Drexel Blvd). “We’ll be celebrating students from Network 9 & 17 schools for their academic growth, leadership, and perseverance,” Ali wrote on Instagram. “I’m excited to uplift the energy and give these young leaders their flowers while they’re still blooming.”

Celebrating Academic Growth And Leadership

This annual breakfast shines a spotlight on scholars from two CPS networks who have shown marked improvement in grades, led community service projects, and displayed resilience in challenging circumstances. Attendees—including school principals, district officials, and family members—will gather for a morning program of award presentations, keynote remarks from GBCAC leaders, and musical highlights designed to motivate and inspire.

Artist Spotlight: Zion Ali

Zion Ali (@zionaliofficial) has emerged as a Renaissance revolutionary in Chicago’s music scene, melding soulful vocals with high-energy productions under his self-coined genre, Music Empowerment Music. In a previous Instagram post celebrating his selection as “Spotlight Artist of the Week,” Ali highlighted his mission: “I’m dedicated to uplifting communities through messages of resilience and self-belief.” His singles “Make It Through” and “Big Energy” have earned rotations on ABC7 News, WGN-TV, WVON 1690 AM, and Power 92.3 FM.

Recent Community Engagement

Just last month, Ali invited local talent to an open-mic showcase at Promontory in Hyde Park. “Pull up to Promontory May 13th! I’m hittin’ the stage for Something Real for the People, Open Mic style,” he posted, encouraging emerging artists to share original work. His hands-on approach extends to mentorship workshops in after-school programs, where he teaches songwriting, performance skills, and the business of music.

Past Performances And Advocacy

Over the years, Ali has performed at Rainbow PUSH Coalition events and partnered with nonprofits such as the John Walt Foundation, Social Works, Chicago Park District, Think Outside the Block, Your Passion First, and the Building Brighter Futures Foundation. His involvement in the Bud Billiken Parade alongside Chicago Defender Charities underscores his commitment to celebrating youth achievement in Bronzeville and beyond.

Ali’s presence at the Student Recognition Breakfast goes beyond entertainment. He plans to tailor his set list with anthems that reinforce self-confidence, community pride, and academic ambition—messages crafted to resonate with award recipients as they prepare for summer challenges and next-year goals.

As the breakfast concludes, each student will leave not only with a certificate but also the encouragement that comes from sharing the stage—however briefly—with a hometown artist who has turned his platform into a force for positive change. At 9:30 AM sharp, the first chords of his performance are sure to set a celebratory tone, reminding everyone that leadership and artistry often bloom together.
