UFC legend Randy Couture is trading the octagon for the drag strip as he dives headfirst into a new competitive arena. The six-time UFC champion shared insights from his training at the prestigious Frank Hawley Drag Racing School, revealing that the mental game is just as crucial in racing as it was in fighting.

In a recent Instagram post, Couture wrote: “Frank Hawley Drag Racing school yesterday and today! Lots to learn and no surprise, like everything else, the problems are mostly right between your ears!!”

The image shows Couture at what appears to be the drag racing facility, suggesting he’s fully immersed in this new chapter of his career.

This training comes on the heels of a major announcement that has surprised fans of both MMA and motorsports. SCAG Racing recently revealed they’re venturing into NHRA Pro Mod competition with Couture behind the wheel. The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) officially welcomed the fighter-turned-racer to their ranks earlier this month.

“I’m excited to jump in with both feet. It’s not something I ever saw myself doing, but neither was fighting, and neither was acting, and those things turned out pretty well,” Couture stated in a recent interview shared by Drag Illustrated.

Couture’s move into drag racing represents yet another ambitious career pivot for the 60-year-old combat sports icon. After dominating in the UFC as both a heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, he successfully transitioned to Hollywood, appearing in films including “The Expendables” franchise alongside Sylvester Stallone.

Couture’s observation about the mental aspects of racing echoes what many professional drivers have noted—that success on the track often comes down to psychological composure and focus. His comment about problems being “mostly right between your ears” suggests he’s recognizing the parallels between the mental discipline required in fighting and racing.

The Frank Hawley Drag Racing School is known for training both novice and experienced racers, with alumni including numerous NHRA champions. The comprehensive program covers everything from basic operations to advanced racing techniques and safety protocols.

As Couture continues his training at the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School, fans are eagerly anticipating his competitive debut in the NHRA Pro Mod division. If his fighting career is any indication, Couture’s mental toughness and disciplined approach may well translate to success on the drag strip.

“The Natural,” as he was known in his fighting days, is proving once again that he’s not afraid to test himself in new arenas—even when they involve hurtling down a quarter-mile track at breathtaking speeds.
