Tyrese Gibson surprised fans this week by turning his spotlight from the big screen to live streaming. The 44-year-old star announced he’s trading Instagram for Twitch and is already celebrating his first subscriber milestone.
Twitch Launch
In an Instagram post on June 5, Gibson shared a candid selfie alongside the news. “I just got my FIRST FOLLOWER on TWITCH it’s UP!!!! lol the struggle,” he wrote, before teasing what’s to come. His channel handle? tyresegibson.
This isn’t Gibson’s first hint that he’d be streaming. Just days earlier, he posted a behind-the-scenes shot of his setup, writing, “I’m about to go live on my first twitch Under tyresegibson.” Now, with that initial follower locked in, he’s ready to open the doors wider.
Streaming Plans
Gibson has promised a mix of content designed to draw on his multi-faceted career. He plans to stream live concerts, drop exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the Fast & Furious franchise, and even document “Fuel Fest,” the annual music and culture festival he co-founded. Add to that “my day-to-day life,” and he promises “more access than anything you’ve ever experienced in your life…… Your life will never be the same.”
Fans know Gibson best as Roman Pearce from the Fast & Furious franchise and for his turn in the Transformers series. His move to Twitch taps into a growing trend of Hollywood stars connecting directly with audiences in a real-time, unscripted format.
Instagram Farewell
In the same announcement, Gibson signaled a major shift in his social-media strategy. “Leaving Instagram soon! It’s been a good run! Buh bye 👋,” he wrote, hinting that his @tyrese account may soon go dark. That news comes as his Instagram reach surged—he recently noted that “139 million of you have put your eyes and energy on my timeline in the last 30 days… Now I need someone to put me up on game on how to monetize this all… Jeez! Instagram ain’t paying me shhhhhhh.”
By pivoting to Twitch, Gibson joins a growing roster of entertainers embracing livestreaming platforms to build deeper fan relationships—and potentially tap into new revenue streams.
What’s Next
For now, Gibson’s focus is on getting comfortable behind the camera rather than in front of it. He’s called on fans to follow his new channel, tyresegibson, and “tell a few folks!” The promise of front-row access to concerts, exclusive film footage, and everyday moments could prove a winning formula.
His career has spanned music—he first broke through with the 1998 R&B hit “Sweet Lady”—to blockbuster film roles. Now, Gibson is looking to add Twitch streamer to his résumé.
Keep an eye on @tyreseGibson on Twitch to catch his next live session—proof that sometimes the biggest stars still love that early-streamer thrill.
