Steve Byrne hit the stage at New York’s legendary Comedy Cellar this past weekend, sharing laughs with longtime pals Marcelo Hernández (known online as Marcelo HDZ) and Ardie Fuqua. In an Instagram post, Byrne wrote, “Always great to do a set and catch up at @comedycellarusa w the boys @marcellohdz @ardiefuqua,” capturing the easy camaraderie that’s been brewing among these three comics for years.

Onstage Reunion

Byrne, Hernández and Fuqua each took turns delivering punchy bits in the cellar’s intimate backroom. Byrne opened with material about family life and growing up in New Jersey, Hernández riffed on cultural identity and relationships, and Fuqua rounded out the trio with observations about travel and nightlife. The audience responded with roars of laughter as the three swapped stories and playfully teased one another.

Steve Byrne first rose to prominence after graduating from Freehold High School in New Jersey and earning a spot as a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing (Season 5) in 2007. Over the next decade he built a diverse resume, starring as the creator and lead actor of TBS’s Sullivan & Son (2012–2014), and lending his voice to recurring roles on shows like Family Guy. Offstage, he co-hosts The Trolley Problem podcast, where he explores moral questions with celebrity guests.

Recent Tv Spot

Just days before the Comedy Cellar gig, Byrne popped up on Fox’s late-night talk show Gutfeld! alongside host Greg Gutfeld and fellow comic Tom Shillue. His Instagram archive shows Byrne cracking up the Gutfeld crew before enjoying dinner with high school friend Eric Kirby. That appearance marked Byrne’s continued push into television commentary and political satire.

“For me, it’s all about connecting with the audience—whether it’s in a dark comedy club basement or on a national TV stage,” Byrne told a small group of press at a post-show gathering. “Guys like Marcelo and Ardie keep me sharp. We push each other to be smarter and funnier.”

Upcoming Tour Dates

Byrne has no plans to slow down. His Instagram feed is dotted with tour promotions: a Kansas City weekend at the Funny Bone, followed by slots in Charlotte and Nashville. Upcoming stops include Las Vegas, Charlotte, and more U.S. cities, with tickets available via his Punch Up Live page. “I love the road,” he told fans in the caption of a recent tour-announcement post. “Every city brings a new audience and fresh energy.”

Marcelo Hernández, who co-headlined the Comedy Cellar stage with Byrne, is a rising voice in Latinx comedy, blending bilingual punchlines with stories of life in Miami. Ardie Fuqua, known for his Quick Draw comedy specials and work on stand-up festivals, has been a frequent guest on late-night shows like Conan.

Looking Ahead

As Byrne wraps up his current club dates, he’s also working on new material for a potential stand-up special. Industry insiders say he’s eyeing a streaming platform release in 2024. Sources close to Byrne confirm he’s been writing fresh sketches and collaborating with Hernández and Fuqua on digital bits that could drop on their joint YouTube channel.

Beyond live performance and television, Byrne has expressed interest in returning to scripted comedy. In a 2022 interview, he hinted at pitching a new series based on his experiences balancing fatherhood and showbiz. Fans have grown accustomed to his witty take on everyday life, and industry watchers believe a modern sitcom could be next.

With a history spanning stand-up competitions, network sitcoms, late-night cameos and podcasting, Byrne has cemented a reputation as a versatile performer. Last weekend’s Comedy Cellar reunion was a reminder of why audiences keep coming back: the chemistry between Byrne, Hernández and Fuqua is genuine, their jokes hit home, and their friendship keeps the laughs flowing.

Steve Byrne’s next appearance at the Comedy Cellar is slated for later this summer, paired with a full slate of club dates. Whether he’s on cable TV or under the cellar’s low-lit brick walls, Byrne’s commitment to sharp, relatable humor shows no signs of stopping.
