Rowetta Takes Center Stage At Old Trafford Fanzone

Rowetta, best known for her powerhouse vocals with Happy Mondays and as a finalist on The X Factor in 2004, traded the recording studio for Old Trafford’s VIP Fanzone last Saturday. In a packed area just steps from the famous pitch, the singer–now a regular BBC Radio Manchester presenter–greeted a handpicked group of supporters, posing for selfies and sharing stories about her career and her passion for the club.

Drawing from her Instagram update “More of my favourite 🇾🇪 VIPS in the @manchesterunited Fanzone,” Rowetta personally thanked Robert Laing, Paul Laing, Raman Paul and his daughter, and Alex Nield’s crew for turning up in full force. She captioned the post: “So good to see you out there @robert.laing7 & @paullaing10 and @raman7paul & your lovely girl and @famousalexnield crew ❤️🤍🖤.”

From Happy Mondays To Fanzone Host

Sharon Rowetta Satchell–her full name–first rose to fame in the early ’90s as the frontwoman of the influential Manchester band Happy Mondays. After a string of hits and a stint on The X Factor, she has maintained a close bond with her hometown. As a host on BBC Radio Manchester, she often champions local music and community causes, making her appearance at the Fanzone a natural fit.

Her performance skills were on full display when she broke into renditions of crowd favorites, from classic Mondays tracks to unexpected covers of fan chants. “I love seeing the smile on people’s faces,” she said, underscoring her commitment to uniting music and football culture.

Vip Fans’ Reactions

Among the fans was Robert Laing, who has supported United since childhood. “Rowetta’s energy is incredible,” he said. “She’s just as passionate about the club as we are. Having her in the VIP area was a highlight of our season.” Paul Laing added, “She even asked about our families and remembered our names. That personal touch means so much.”

In another highlight, Rowetta shared tips on vocal warm-ups for chanting at the stands. “I told them to always hydrate, breathe deeply and project–just like on stage,” she joked, eliciting laughter and applause from the group.

A Look Back: Rowetta’s Mufc Journey

This isn’t Rowetta’s first MUFC event. In May, she traveled to Bilbao for the Europa League final and teased her schedule on Instagram, noting “My stage times tomorrow are 1pm & 4pm either side of Mani & Liam Fray, but get down early for Jay Dunn & a very special Fanzone.” That trip solidified her reputation as a fixture in the club’s off-field fan activations.

Over the years, her posts have documented everything from breakfast rehearsals in Spain to on-air interviews with former United legends. It’s a blend of music heritage and football fanaticism that few guest hosts can match.

Whether she’s belting out anthems or chatting with a three-generation United family, Rowetta’s presence reminds fans that the club is about more than 90 minutes of play–it’s a community built on shared history and passion.

In wrapping up the afternoon, Rowetta gathered her VIP guests for one last group photo, signing memorabilia and promising to return. As the crowd dispersed, many agreed they’d never seen a Fanzone experience quite like this one, marking it as a standout moment in the season.
