Softly, As I Leave You: A Memoir Tour
Priscilla Presley has announced a new series of live events in support of her forthcoming memoir, Softly, As I Leave You. In an Instagram post, the 78-year-old actress and entrepreneur invited followers to “step beside the legacy with me as I share my journey in a deeply personal conversation.” Tickets are now available via the Fane website for shows across Australia.
A Five-decade Reflection
Drawing on more than fifty years of experience in the public eye, Presley’s memoir covers her early years in Germany, her meeting with Elvis Presley at age 14, their 1967 wedding, and the challenges of life at Graceland. In today’s announcement she emphasized that her story goes beyond the spotlight, exploring the evolution of her own identity.
Managing Fame And Independence
Presley married Elvis at 21, immediately becoming one of the world’s most scrutinized young women. She writes candidly about the shifting dynamics within their marriage, the decision to separate in 1972, and her years as a single mother raising Lisa Marie Presley. “What it took to leave, what I lost in the process, and what I ultimately found: strength, purpose, and a life beyond the legend,” she says.
From Dallas To The Naked Gun
After Elvis’s death in 1977, Presley reinvented herself as an actress, earning acclaim for her role as Jenna Wade on the TV drama Dallas and later as Jane Spencer in the Naked Gun film trilogy. These credits, she notes, helped her carve out a distinct career path and foster a sense of self apart from her late husband’s legacy.
Guardian Of Graceland
In the 1980s, Presley took a leading role in turning Graceland into a global landmark. As chairperson of Elvis Presley Enterprises, she oversaw the opening of the mansion to the public, creating a major tourist destination and preserving her husband’s memory. Under her guidance, annual attendance at Graceland has continued to grow, contributing to Memphis’s cultural economy.
Previous Appearances Abroad
Presley has already supported her book with events in the UK and US. In late 2023 she shared news of personal appearances in Bristol, Tennessee, and Huntsville, Alabama, thanking fans for “so many smiles and great stories.” She also joined Hollywood expos in Burbank earlier this summer, greeting collectors and autograph seekers.
