A Court With Community In Mind

Master P has taken his love of art and community outreach to the floor—literally. On October 15, the rap mogul-turned-basketball executive joined local artist collective DSD Paintings at the University of New Orleans’ Lakefront Arena to unveil a custom court mural ahead of his first game as President of Basketball Operations. “This is Bigger than Floors! We are connecting People & Communities while building brands and skills to help our culture,” he captioned an Instagram post showcasing vibrant swirls of blue, gold and green that frame the UNO Privateers logo at center court.

Fans spotted the half-painted design hours before tipoff. In a series of images, Master P wields a roller and spray can alongside DSD founder Caleb Simmons, layering geometric patterns that highlight the Crescent City’s musical heritage and symbols of unity. Hashtags #WeStrongerTogether and #EducationIsKey underline the project’s mission: to use the game and the artwork as platforms for learning, collaboration and cultural pride.

From Music To Mural And Mentor

Percy “Master P” Miller first rose to fame in the 1990s with No Limit Records, building a multimedia empire that included film, fashion and real estate. In 2021 he joined the privateershoops staff as head of basketball operations, a move that merged his lifelong passion for hoops with his history of mentoring young artists and athletes.

“Painting this court isn’t just about aesthetics,” Master P explained. “It’s about giving people something they can own, share and feel proud of. When the players step on this floor November 8, they’ll know it was built by the same hands that built businesses, families and communities.”

His first home game as Coach P kicks off on Nov. 8 at Lakefront Arena against Southeastern Louisiana. The mural unveiling doubles as a community celebration, with local music from UNO student DJs, youth basketball clinics and workshops on brand-building led by Master P’s Team Hope Foundation.

Honors And Impact Beyond The Arena

This isn’t Master P’s first salute from Louisiana. In June 2023 the state legislature marked June 11 as Master P Day at the Baton Rouge capitol, honoring his financial literacy programs, NAACP service awards and charitable work through Team Hope Foundation. According to organizers, he’s taught thousands of K-12 students money-management skills and provided scholarships to under-resourced youth.

In an earlier Instagram post from June, he reflected on skepticism and grit: “Nobody watches you harder than people who doubted you. Give them a good show,” he wrote alongside a shot of empty seats at the State Capitol. Now, with his mural complete and his roster set, Master P is turning doubters into believers.

University President Dr. J. Michael Henderson praised the collaboration. “This court art reflects our commitment to creativity, diversity and teamwork—values that extend beyond sports. We’re grateful to Percy Miller for investing his time and talent in our students and city.”

Assistant coach Shawn Pitre added, “Our players feel the energy every time they dribble. It’s not just a game; it’s a statement about where we come from and where we’re going.”

Master P’s Instagram reveal has already earned thousands of likes and shares. One fan commented, “This is how you leave a legacy in your hometown!” Another posted a video of community members high-fiving each other as they watched the finishing touches.

By combining craftsmanship, cultural storytelling and athletic ambition, Master P has created more than a vibrant surface—he’s forged a meeting point for art, sport and social uplift. As opening night approaches, the Privateers will have more than a new coach; they’ll have a court that carries the weight of history, hope and hometown pride.

Whether the team wins or loses on Nov. 8, the message is already clear: this floor belongs to every single person who picked up a brush, cheered from the stands or dreamed big long before tipoff. And for Master P, that’s the real victory.
