On Monday night at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, Lynda Carter received the Honors Award for her portrayal of Wonder Woman on the show’s 50th anniversary. The legendary CBS picked up the series after ABC canceled it in its first season, a move Carter paid tribute to, thanking Bill Paley for saving the role that would define her career. On her Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ9lEUHNFGt/), Carter shared backstage shots of her Jean Paul Gaultier couture look styled by The Cannon Media Group.

Introduced on stage by director and writer Patty Jenkins, Carter was welcomed with a highlight reel chronicling her four decades in entertainment. Carter credited her fans for their unwavering support and reflected on her late husband Robert Altman’s years on the Paley Center board of trustees. Her daughter Jessica Carter Altman sat beaming in the front row as her mother took the podium.
Family, Fans And Felicitations
“I’m humbled and grateful for the superb people who love me in spite of my flaws,” Carter shared after the ceremony. Among the other honorees were producer Crystal McCrary, Alibaba co-founder Joe Tsai, and the Good Morning America team of George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan—also celebrating the landmark anniversary of the morning show.
Looking Back On A Trailblazing Career
Best known for her breakout role as the Amazonian superhero from 1975 to 1979, Carter became a symbol of female empowerment on television. Before donning the iconic red, blue and gold outfit, she was a music performer and model who placed first runner-up in the 1972 Miss World pageant. Over the years, Carter has carried her superhero spirit into activism—from her 2017 Library of Congress appearance honoring Dr. Carla Hayden as a Wonder Woman for breaking barriers to her work with women’s organizations.
More than ever, Carter noted in her Instagram caption, the world still needs Wonder Woman. “She is within all of us and don’t you forget it,” she wrote, closing a night that celebrated her enduring legacy and the adventures ahead.
