Actor and activist Kendrick Sampson has dropped his Thursday Build Power Day itinerary, promising a packed schedule of community-driven celebrations across Houston’s premier venues. Sharing the announcement via Instagram, @kendrick38 urged followers to “Save this post and check the times + locations—Thursday is stacked with celebration, soul, and community power.”
Bld Pwr Day Itinerary
Sampson’s third-day lineup kicks off at The Ion with a Block Party in partnership with Black Book Houston, designed to bring neighbors together over food, art, and live music. Later on The Ion’s outdoor lawn, attendees can unwind at The Living Room Experience, a conversational forum hosted by Nana Gyamfi (@attorneynana). The evening closes out with The Session R&B Jam at NOTO, curated by @thisisthesession.
Seated tickets for The Session have already sold out. General admission and remaining sections remain available through the link in Sampson’s bio.
Building Power Through Culture
BLD PWR, Sampson’s nonprofit initiative, blends activism and the arts to engage young people on subjects from reproductive justice to police reform. A 2024 profile notes Sampson’s past TV roles on The Vampire Diaries and For the People, and highlights his co-founding of the organization to elevate Black voices.
Recent Instagram posts have underscored this approach. One video features actress Amber Riley (@msamberpriley) belting out hits at The Session R&B Jam Collab with Sampson, signaling the quality of performances attendees can expect. Another “Magic Hour” post by BLD PWR frames power-building as a daily practice rooted in joy.
Yesterday’s Warm-up
Sampson kicked off BLD PWR Day festivities with a Wednesday itinerary that included a Block Party at The Ion, a Living Room Experience co-hosted by SisterSong WOC, and Club Karaoke at The Savoy. Fans who joined the warm-up enjoyed intimate conversations and snagged the last of the Club Karaoke tickets.
The Session R&b Jam Sells Out
The Session R&B Jam, a highlight attraction, reached capacity for seated attendees shortly after tickets went live. Production notes reveal that roughly 200 seats were claimed within hours, leaving only general admission and standing sections for latecomers. In an Instagram update, Sampson encouraged fans to “Hit the link in bio to grab yours,” acknowledging the swift sell-out.
What To Expect
From midday block parties to late-night live sets, BLD PWR Day promises an immersive blend of grassroots engagement and cultural entertainment. Attendees can anticipate pop-up art installations, breakout conversation circles on topics ranging from economic justice to mental health, plus live DJs and surprise guest appearances.
Sampson’s activism has earned recognition on major platforms like ESSENCE Festival, where he hosted a Real Talk Town Hall about Black joy and liberation last June. This Thursday’s events at The Ion and NOTO continue that trajectory, making room for storytelling, coalition-building, and celebration.
With this itinerary, Kendrick Sampson invites Houston to not only watch but actively participate in shaping a future grounded in joy, solidarity, and collective strength.
