New Animated Musical Series Arrives On Netflix

Netflix is set to expand its lineup with “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” an action-packed animated musical that transports viewers to a neon-drenched world where pop idols moonlight as demon slayers. The series, developed by Netflix Animation, is the brainchild of writer–showrunner Maggie Kang and director Chris Appelhans (Wish Dragon). It seamlessly blends high-octane combat, original pop tunes, and eye-popping visuals for a fresh take on the genre.

Star-studded Voice Cast

Leading the ensemble is Ken Jeong, who took to Instagram to announce his involvement. In his post, Jeong wrote, “Honored to be a part of this special project! Congrats to Maggie Kang, Chris Appelhans and kudos to Arden Cho, May Hong, & Ji-Young Yoo for their spot on performances! And the animation and music by TWICE was chef’s kiss! Watch K-Pop Demon Hunters on Netflix premiering Friday!” Jeong’s excitement hints at a role that taps both his comedic instincts (The Hangover trilogy, Community) and his gift for physical comedy.

Behind The Scenes With Twice

The show’s musical backbone comes courtesy of TWICE, the nine-member South Korean group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2015. Known for hits like “Cheer Up” and “Fancy,” TWICE recorded several original tracks that underscore the series’ dramatic demon-battles and emotional beats. According to production notes, animators worked closely with the idols to capture signature choreography in key action sequences.

Voices Of The Demon Hunters

Joining Jeong are Arden Cho (Teen Wolf), voice actor May Hong (The Witcher: Blood Origin), and rising talent Ji-Young Yoo. Cho’s blend of action chops and comic timing earned special praise in Jeong’s caption, while Hong and Yoo bring depth to characters torn between pop-star lives and a duty to protect humanity from supernatural threats.

Ken Jeong’s Journey To Animation

Before lending his voice to “K-Pop Demon Hunters,” Jeong built a two-decade career as both a performer and creator. A licensed physician turned comedian, he shot to fame as Mr. Chow in The Hangover (2009) and later led ABC’s Dr. Ken. His animation credits include voice roles in DreamWorks’ Trolls and Illumination’s Despicable Me franchises, making him a natural fit for Netflix’s latest animated venture.

What To Expect When It Drops

“K-Pop Demon Hunters” premieres this Friday exclusively on Netflix. Episodes will introduce viewers to a squad of idol-turned-heroes who harness music, dance, and martial arts to banish demons threatening Seoul’s neon skyline. With 10 episodes planned for its first season, the series aims to appeal to both anime fans and K-pop enthusiasts.

With its blend of star power, catchy soundtracks, and bold animation, “K-Pop Demon Hunters” is positioned to become one of Netflix’s breakout hits this year. Stay tuned for a series that’s equal parts concert spectacle and demon-slaying adventure.
