Protest Day In Studio City

On April 27, Studio City residents poured into the streets for the #NoKingsDay protest, a grassroots movement opposing the normalization of authoritarian rhetoric in American politics. Among the sea of protest signs and raised fists was Jeri Ryan, best known for her role as Seven of Nine on Star Trek: Voyager. With her camera rolling, the 55-year-old actress posted snapshots on Instagram—“Studio City TURNED OUT for today’s #nokingsday protest! This is what democracy looks like! ✊🏼🇺🇸✊🏼🇺🇸✊🏼🇺🇸✊🏼”—capturing both her passion and the crowd’s energy.

A Voice Of Experience

Ryan’s participation underscored her belief in public demonstration as a tool for change. In one image, she stands shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow demonstrators holding handmade placards reading “No Kings Day” and “Power to the People.” In another, she raises her fist in solidarity, echoing chants that called for elected leaders to respect constitutional limits.

Activism Beyond The Screen

This isn’t Ryan’s first public act of protest. Earlier this month, she shared a black-and-white photo from a national march with the caption, “Proud to march with MILLIONS across the country yesterday to tell Trump and Musk #handsoff !” That post, featuring Ryan flanked by other activists, marked her transition from on-screen roles to real-world advocacy.

Scaling Up The Movement

The Studio City rally was one of dozens held in major cities on April 27. From Seattle to Miami, small-town gatherings to urban marches, organizers estimate over 15,000 participants nationwide. Local coordinator Marcos Estrada said the day’s goal was simple: “We wanted to remind officials they serve the people, not rule over them.” Ryan’s presence helped drive local attendance past initial expectations.

What #nokingsday Means

The hashtag #NoKingsDay originated online late last year as a tongue-in-cheek reference to traditional King’s Day celebrations in Europe. In the U.S., activists adopted April 27 to reject any drift toward monarchical or autocratic governance. By planting the movement in community centers, parks and street corners, organizers have transformed a viral slogan into tangible civic engagement.

Community Response

Attendees praised Ryan’s solidarity. “Seeing her out here reminds us democracy needs champions,” said Samira Hayes, a long-time Studio City resident. Ryan lingered after the official rally, greeting families with young children and conversing with seniors who recalled past voter drives in California.

The Actress Turned Advocate

Born Jeri Lynn Zimmermann on February 22, 1968, Ryan began her career as a Miss America contestant before earning acclaim as Seven of Nine. Her subsequent roles in Boston Public, Star Trek: Picard and Leverage: Redemption have cemented her status as a versatile performer. Off-screen, she’s become a vocal advocate—posting urgent messages like “WAKE THE F**K UP” to stress political awareness.

Looking Ahead

Ryan shows no sign of slowing down. In a recent Instagram announcement, she confirmed her appearance at the Galactic Diversity & Inclusion Con in Philadelphia on May 3, 2025. There, she’ll host fan events, lead panel discussions and underscore the same values of inclusion and accountability she championed at the protest.

By blending celebrity influence with street-level activism, Jeri Ryan exemplifies a growing trend of public figures mobilizing their platforms to spotlight grassroots causes. As #NoKingsDay continues to spread, her participation highlights how an engaged celebrity can shift awareness and energize local movements.
