Big3’s Baltimore Takeover Arrives

On June 8, Ice Cube’s revolutionary 3-on-3 basketball league, Big3, lands at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore for the second weekend of the 2024 season. The rapper-turned-league founder lit up Instagram with a direct call to fans: “BALTIMORE, get ready! 🔥 Week 2 is almost here! Which matchup are you most hyped for? Grab your tickets via the link in our bio!” This marks Big3’s second stop after a sold-out opener in Chicago and extends the league’s coast-to-coast footprint.

Ice Cube co-founded Big3 in 2017 alongside entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz. The league revived half-court, 3-on-3 professional basketball with former NBA talent, a 50-point game format, four 8-minute quarters and unique rules like the four-point circle. Since its debut, Big3 has drawn crowds at venues from Los Angeles to Dallas, and Baltimore becomes the latest host city in 2024’s compressed three-week sprint to the championship.

Chicago Chronicles: Week 1 Recap

The season launched on June 1 at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena with marquee matchups and a few Instagram teasers. In one post, Ice Cube hyped a showdown between crafty three-level scorers, writing: “Two crafty 3-level scorers face off as @imjustpargo and @richboyz23 do battle in Chicago. Who’s coming out on top? 👀” That contest delivered buzzer-beaters and drew praise from fans across social media.

Another highlight saw paint-partners @its_chrisjohnson and @moosemonroe15 square off under the basket. Big3’s Instagram teased: “A battle in the paint is brewing in Chicago 👀 @its_chrisjohnson will square off vs. @moosemonroe15 today on @vicetv at 7:30 PM ET.” Those inside posts helped build momentum, while the league’s official account celebrated the Triplets’ dominant win over the Detroit Amps, announcing tip-off details for June 14 on CBS Sports and FITE.

What To Expect In Week 2

Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena will host four matchups on Saturday evening, featuring teams hungry to climb the standings. While full lineups won’t be finalized until tip-off, fans can anticipate battles between top franchises like the Ghost Ballers, 3 Headed Monsters and Trilogy. Expect former All-Stars and role players to deliver high-octane offense, highlighted by power forwards swishing four-pointers from the ‘Fire Line’ arc.

Ice Cube also hinted at off-court entertainment when he reposted an earlier Instagram message: “Baltimore, get ready! The legendary @brothermob is on the mic in the DMV this Sunday. Tickets available at the link in our bio. 🔥” That refers to DJ Brother Mob, whose halftime sets have become a signature at Big3 events.

Several storylines will be under the microscope:
• Championship pedigree: Trilogy, the 2017 title team, looks to shake off a slow start after falling to the Power in Week 1.
• New blood: 3’s Company, led by veteran sharpshooter Joe Johnson, aims to capitalize on their depth.
• MVP chase: After posting 20+ points in Chicago, keep an eye on guards like Pargo and the Bivouac’s Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

Tickets remain on sale via the Big3 website, with options for single games or full league passes. Fans can also stream every matchup live on FITE, CBS Sports Network and the league’s official app.

As the Big3 roadshow moves east, Baltimore’s basketball community will get its first taste of Ice Cube’s alternative league model: half-court, high stakes and a fan-first production team. With action packed into a single night and a diverse roster of former NBA talent, Week 2 promises intensity from tip-off to the final buzzer.

The next chapter in Ice Cube’s basketball experiment kicks off as Charm City welcomes 3-on-3’s biggest names for a blockbuster evening of hoops and entertainment.
