Hugh Jackman’s long-held dream of creating an inclusive theatre company is finally coming to fruition. The acclaimed actor took to Instagram to share his excitement about the launch of Together Productions, with the first performance scheduled for Monday evening.

In his heartfelt post, Jackman wrote, “I can’t believe this seed of an idea – to create a theatre company/community is coming to life. I can’t wait for Monday evening. Our first performance. It feels amazing and right. It feels like we are onto something really special.”

The image accompanying the post shows Jackman in what appears to be a rehearsal space, dressed casually and looking enthusiastic about this new creative venture.

The Vision Behind Together Productions

Jackman described Together Productions as “an inclusive space for ALL. To perform, to learn, to listen, to be creative.” This mission statement reflects the actor’s commitment to creating opportunities in theatre that welcome diverse voices and talents.

The announcement post also acknowledged key supporters of the project, with Jackman expressing gratitude to Sonia Friedman, director Ian Rickson, and Audible Theater for “believing that this is possible.”

In a previous Instagram post explaining the concept, Jackman shared a video discussing why he created Together Theatre and what it represents. The company appears to be focused on creating an accessible theatrical space that breaks down traditional barriers in the performing arts.

Upcoming Productions

According to information shared in Jackman’s earlier posts, Together Productions will be presenting two plays: “Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes” and “Creditors.” These productions will feature performances scheduled back-to-back, suggesting an ambitious launch for the new theatre company.

Jackman revealed that when he and Sonia Friedman were establishing Together Productions, they made a list of actors they hoped would join them. Among those who “answered the call” was Liev Schreiber, Jackman’s former co-star from the X-Men franchise, where Jackman famously portrayed Wolverine and Schreiber played Sabretooth.

In a nostalgic post shared earlier, Jackman posted photos of himself and Schreiber in rehearsal, alongside a throwback image from their X-Men days, noting it was “Amazing to be back together in a rehearsal studio.”

A New Chapter For Jackman

This venture marks a significant milestone in Jackman’s theatrical career. Despite his extensive Broadway experience, including his one-man show currently playing at Radio City Music Hall, he noted that this will be his “first time in an off-Broadway production.”

The Australian performer, known for his versatility across film, television, and stage, has maintained a strong connection to theatre throughout his career. Jackman has received numerous accolades for his stage work, including a Tony Award for his role in “The Boy from Oz.”

His current show, “From New York, With Love,” at Radio City Music Hall has been drawing crowds, with upcoming performances scheduled for April 18 and 19, as mentioned in his recent social media updates.

The Collaborative Effort

Jackman’s partnership with renowned theatre producer Sonia Friedman signals the serious ambitions behind Together Productions. Friedman is one of the most influential figures in the theatre world, having produced numerous award-winning shows in London’s West End and on Broadway.

The involvement of Audible Theater further indicates the company’s innovative approach, potentially incorporating audio drama elements or digital distribution alongside traditional stage performances.

As Jackman concluded in his announcement post, “We are just getting started!” It suggests that the initial launch is merely the beginning of what he hopes will be a significant and lasting contribution to the theatre community.
