Tears And Songs
At a cozy Tuesday evening gathering in New York City, musician-turned-author Greta Morgan invited friends, collaborators and early supporters to celebrate the release of her debut memoir, The Lost Voice. Hosted by Holly and Burnell Pines, the launch party mixed personal anecdotes with live music. “My friends brought me to tears performing some of my songs that I can no longer sing,” Morgan shared on Instagram, crediting @misshannahcohen and @sashaspielberg for the emotional tribute.
Editor’s Connection
Morgan sat down on stage with her editor, novelist and singer Rakesh Satyal, for a conversation about the themes that drive The Lost Voice: loss, grief and transformation. In her social-media post she called Satyal her “dream editor, not only because he’s brilliant and a fantastic novelist himself, but because he was also a singer whose voice has been compromised and he understood my story with embodied empathy.” Their dialogue ranged from creative process and pandemic-era reflection to Morgan’s transition from recording artist to memoirist.
Joyful Celebration
Despite the book’s exploration of silence and personal change, the atmosphere was pure joy. Morgan’s longtime photographer @cmishah captured candid moments: Morgan wiping away tears as Cohen and Spielberg harmonized on a song, Satyal offering his own vocals, and friends raising glasses in support. Attendees mingled around stacks of The Lost Voice, newly available at Golden Notebook Bookstore, where autographed copies can still be purchased and customized for special occasions.
In a prior Instagram announcement marking its official publication, Morgan wrote, “It’s a deep privilege to share my story in this time of profound collective loss, grief and transformation. I imagine my book as one candle on an altar of millions of stories of loss people have experienced.” Her post resonated with followers who praised the work as “a moving account of loss, change, rebirth and hard-earned wisdom.”
Next Stop
Morgan and Sasha Spielberg will host a public reading and signing tonight at 7 PM at The Strand in Manhattan. Fans are encouraged to join the author for an intimate excerpt from The Lost Voice, followed by a Q&A and personalized signatures. Tickets and event details are available via Morgan’s website and Golden Notebook Bookstore’s Instagram page.
Autographed copies of The Lost Voice remain on sale through Golden Notebook Bookstore; orders can be placed online or in person, with options to include a custom dedication. As Morgan wrote in her launch-night post, “Thank you to everyone who has purchased the book and has shared it! Your support means more than I can possibly express at this moment.”
Morgan first teased the project in early May, revealing a series of small gatherings in the Hudson Valley and Los Angeles before culminating in this New York City celebration. Across her social channels, she’s shared behind-the-scenes details of her memoir’s journey—trading studio sessions for writing retreats, vocal rehearsals for proofreading sessions, and stages for reading platforms.
Tonight’s event marks another milestone in Morgan’s evolving career: from fronting indie rock bands and solo projects to exploring the written word. With The Lost Voice now in readers’ hands, Morgan’s story of finding her voice—through song, prose and community—continues to echo beyond the page.
