Gabriel ‘Fluffy’ Iglesias and Jo Koy have set their sights on making comedy history. The stand-up powerhouses announced exclusively to The Los Angeles Times that they’ll be headlining the first-ever stand-up comedy performance at SoFi Stadium on March 21, 2026, with the ambitious goal of attracting 70,000 fans – a number that would establish a new Guinness World Record.

A Historic Moment For Stand-up Comedy

‘For one day, the two of us will be Taylor Swift,’ Iglesias joked during the announcement, referencing the massive stadium shows that have become synonymous with the pop superstar. The comedy event, still nearly two years away, represents more than just a performance opportunity for the veteran comics. Both performers view this as a milestone moment not only for their dedicated fanbases but for the entire art form of stand-up comedy, elevating the medium to the stadium-filling status typically reserved for musical acts and sporting events.

The announcement was accompanied by a promotional image showing both comedians looking confident and ready to take on the massive venue. This groundbreaking show would mark the first time stand-up comedy has been performed at the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020 and serves as home to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

The Path To Comedy Stardom

Gabriel Iglesias, known affectionately to fans as ‘Fluffy,’ has built an impressive career spanning over 20 years. The Mexican-American comedian from San Diego, California, rose to prominence through his ability to connect with diverse audiences through his gift for storytelling, sound effects, and impressions.

Iglesias is one of America’s most successful stand-up comedians, having been featured in several stand-up specials for Comedy Central and Netflix. His comedy often revolves around his experiences as a Mexican American and frequently references his weight with his catchphrase ‘I’m not fat… I’m fluffy.’

Beyond stand-up, Iglesias has established himself as an actor, voice actor, and producer. He’s appeared in films such as ‘Magic Mike,’ ‘Magic Mike XXL,’ and provided voice work for animated features including ‘Coco,’ ‘Ferdinand,’ and ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy.’

A Wrestling Fan At Heart

Outside of his comedy career, Iglesias has recently been indulging in another passion—professional wrestling. His recent Instagram activity shows him attending WWE events, including WrestleMania. In one post, he shared a highlight from WrestleMania day 1, thanking the ‘OTC team for letting me mark out.’ Another post showed him announcing, ‘Big show tomorrow at The COSMO then it’s WrestleMania time baby!!! This is my favorite time of year 👊🏽😁.’

WWE’s official account even acknowledged his presence, sharing, ‘@fluffyguy is in the house TONIGHT for the final #SmackDown before #WrestleMania!! 🔥’ with footage of the comedian at the event. Another wrestling-related post described him as ‘a true wrestling fan just like us 🙌.’

Comedy Collaborations

The upcoming SoFi Stadium show isn’t the first collaboration between Iglesias and Jo Koy. In a recent Instagram post, Iglesias shared what appears to be a promotional image for another joint venture with the caption: ‘It’s finally happening and u can be a part of it… ‘Silence, I keel u Fluffy’ 😜 Do u want to see this show in ur city?’

This references Jo Koy’s comedy partner and puppet character Achmed the Dead Terrorist’s catchphrase ‘Silence! I kill you!’ from the Jeff Dunham ventriloquist comedy shows, suggesting the comedians are having fun with cross-comedy references in their promotional materials.

Breaking Barriers In Comedy

Jo Koy, born Joseph Glenn Herbert Sr., has similarly built a dedicated following throughout his career. The Filipino-American comedian has released several successful comedy specials and has been open about his cultural background in his material. The SoFi Stadium show represents a significant milestone for comedy, and particularly for comedians of color who have historically had to forge their own paths in the entertainment industry. Both Iglesias and Koy have built grassroots followings that have grown into arena-filling fan bases over decades of consistent touring and releasing specials.

Looking Toward 2026

While the show is still almost one year away, the early announcement gives fans plenty of time to plan for what could be a historic moment in comedy. If successful, the 70,000-attendee goal would definitively establish a new benchmark for stand-up comedy performances. For both comedians, who have spent decades building their careers through relentless touring and connecting with fans across the country, the SoFi Stadium show represents the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to their craft.

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, this announcement signals that stand-up comedy can command the same massive venues as music’s biggest stars – proving that laughter, like music, has universal appeal that can fill even the largest of venues.

More information about the historic show can be found through the Los Angeles Times.
