Emma Heming Willis took to Instagram to share her enthusiasm for Independent Bookstore Day, revealing her love for browsing local bookshops and the special bond she shares with her daughter who serves as her unofficial publicist.
In her heartfelt post ahead of Independent Bookstore Day, Emma Heming Willis expressed her passion for local bookstores, describing how these spaces fill her soul. The model and entrepreneur wrote, “I love making time to browse at the local bookstore. Chatting with people about what they’re reading and getting new recs always fills my soul.”
What makes her bookstore visits particularly endearing is her admission of being somewhat shy about her new status as an author. “What I’m not great at yet? Telling strangers I’m a new author,” Emma confessed with a smile emoji. Fortunately, she has backup in the form of her enthusiastic 10-year-old daughter who isn’t afraid to speak up on her mother’s behalf.
Emma’s journey into authorship is a recent development. Just days before this post, she revealed the cover of her first book, “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path.” Set to be published on September 9, 2025, the book draws from her personal experience as a caregiver to her husband, actor Bruce Willis.
In a previous Instagram post revealing her book cover, Emma explained the deeply personal motivation behind her writing: “Born from grief, shaped by love, and guided by purpose, this is the book I needed back when Bruce was first diagnosed and I was frozen with fear and uncertainty.”
The book aims to support caregivers who feel lost, overwhelmed, or alone. As Emma noted in another post, “The idea that caregiving is a solo mission is outdated. Caregiving is a societal responsibility.”
In her post celebrating Independent Bookstore Day, which falls on the last Saturday in April, Emma encouraged her followers to show support for local independent bookstores. “So today and whenever you can, show some love and support to your local indie bookstore. There’s so much magic in there,” she wrote.
She also tagged several of her favorite independent bookshops, including Zibby’s Bookshop, Diesel Bookstore, Katonah Reading Room, Bedford Books, and Iconoclast Books, highlighting her personal connection to these community spaces.
Through her social media presence and upcoming book, Emma continues to build community around the shared experiences of caregiving. Her celebration of Independent Bookstore Day reflects her appreciation for spaces that bring people together through literature and conversation.
As Emma navigates her dual roles as caregiver and now author, she exemplifies how personal challenges can transform into opportunities to support others. Her 10-year-old “wingwoman” daughter’s enthusiasm for promoting her mother’s work adds a touching dimension to this family’s story of resilience and love.
