La Memorial Day Comedy Takeover
Dominican-American comedian Glorelys Mora is leading a three-night Memorial Day weekend showcase in Los Angeles. On Instagram she declared, “Dominicans are taking over Los Angeles for Memorial Day Weekend and everyone’s invited!” The lineup runs May 23–25 with back-to-back stand-up events across Silver Lake venues.
Back To Basics Debut
Friday, May 23 at 9:30 PM, Mora headlines her first-ever solo show Back to Basics at Lyric Hyperion. In this 45-minute set she revisits the bar-room hustle that shaped her comic voice—reflecting on single life, her big move from New York City, and why her mother was right about everything (including her need to learn cooking). Mora teased on Instagram that this raw night will blend growth, reflection, and plenty of laughs.
Saturday Stand-up Sessions
On Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 PM, fans can catch Morir Sonando Comedy—a collective co-founded by Mora—at The Kookaburra Lounge. This show is produced in partnership with Latination Media and Latination Roots, spotlighting Dominican talent and fresh voices on L.A.’s comedy circuit. Later that night at 11 PM, Mora and her best friend Sasha Merci host After Dark at Capícua LA, a late-night party with music, cocktails and off-the-cuff humor.
Mora’s weekend residency is part celebration, part takeover. She’s joined by peers across stages where Dominican jokes, bilingual banter and cultural pride set the tone. Tickets remain available via her Instagram bio, and attendees can expect a spirited homage to her Washington Heights roots.
A Rising Comedy Star
Since starting stand-up in April 2018, Mora has opened for legends like Aida Rodriguez, Yvonne Orji, Leslie Jones and D.L. Hughley. Her Netflix Is A Joke Introducing set won a Webby Award and has racked up over 2.1 million views across platforms. On film, she appears in We’re Not Married? and B Is for Bachata—both featured at major festivals—and she’s writing a live talk-show pilot inspired by the likes of Tyra Banks and Arsenio Hall.
Her co-founded collective Morir Sonando Comedy has already made history from New York’s United Palace to L.A. clubs. This weekend’s Hyperion headliner marks a conscious shift: after hundreds of showcases Mora is now dedicating herself to headlining, honing her point of view and taking bigger creative risks.
Fans have followed her journey from “Pretty Funny” promos to her current “Legendary” era. She frequently credits her growth to a fearless pursuit of space—a message she shares with fellow comedians and audiences alike, urging everyone to take up the stage and own their story.
Sunday wraps with after-show gatherings where Mora plans to mingle with attendees, sign merch and celebrate Dominican culture with dance-hall rhythms and traditional sips.
With a sold-out or near-sellout run looming, Mora’s Memorial Day weekend is set to energize L.A.’s comedy scene. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to her work, these three nights promise a mix of sharp observations, cultural pride and an infectious party spirit.
Dominican punchlines are coming in hot—get your tickets before they’re gone and be part of the takeover.
Mora’s Memorial Day weekend lineup not only cements her status as a rising headliner but also spotlights the vibrant Dominican community thriving on both coasts. Her Back to Basics show at Lyric Hyperion and the collaborative events at The Kookaburra Lounge and Capícua LA make this a must-see three-day fiesta of stand-up comedy in Los Angeles.
