Spotlight On David & Tamela Mann

Tamela Mann has built an illustrious career as a gospel powerhouse and actress. Born June 9, 1966, in Fort Worth, Texas, she first captured audiences with her dynamic stage presence and rich mezzo-soprano voice. Her album “Best Days” topped Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart in 2012, and she has released seven studio albums to date, collecting multiple Stellar and NAACP Image Awards. On screen, Mann has earned acclaim in Tyler Perry productions—including Madea’s Family Reunion and Something New—and currently co-stars as Cora Simmons in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. David Mann—her high school sweetheart and spouse since 1988—rose to fame as the hilarious Mr. Brown in Perry’s Meet the Browns and continues to tour alongside Tamela in their Live. Breathe. Fight. concert series. Together, they embody the event’s core values by sharing candid testimonials about navigating challenges through faith, humor and unwavering commitment.

Local Host Couple

Charlotte natives Donta Wilson and his wife, Bonika, take on the role of City Host Couple, ensuring local logistics and community engagement align with Married 4 Life’s mission. Known for their leadership in faith-based outreach and youth mentorship programs, the Wilsons have partnered with Charlotte-area nonprofits to secure venue spaces and volunteer teams. “We’ve witnessed firsthand how strong marriages strengthen entire communities,” says Bonika. “Bringing this movement to our hometown allows us to showcase Charlotte’s hospitality while championing godly unions.” Their planning committee has coordinated with local caterers, security teams and charitable partners, offering special group rates and opportunities for attendees to serve in city-led volunteer projects.

Building A National Movement

Founded in 2018 by relationship strategist Coach Martez and licensed counselor Dr. Woodrina, the Married 4 Life Walk Weekend began as an intimate gathering aimed at equipping couples with practical tools grounded in faith. Over seven years it has grown into a national platform, moving from a single-day walk to a full weekend of workshops, mixers and gala celebrations. The core pillars remain education, encouragement and community, with breakout sessions covering communication strategies, financial planning, intimacy renewal and conflict resolution. Each year, organizers present the Commitment & Legacy Award to a couple whose marriage and public service exemplify lasting partnership; for 2025, recipients Marvin and Sharyn Ellison were chosen for their decades-long union and civic leadership. Though the event draws national speakers and artists, its grassroots emphasis on peer mentoring creates an environment where couples leave equipped to strengthen marriages in their own neighborhoods.

As ticket sales accelerate, couples seeking to celebrate their bond or find renewed direction are encouraged to register early. Whether you come for the energizing walk through Charlotte’s skyline or the late-night gala performances, the Married 4 Life Walk Weekend promises a blend of laughter, learning and heart-led inspiration that resonates long after the last song fades.
