Cristela Alonzo Heads to Brea Improv for Three August Shows

Comedian buys out Brea Improv stage in August before pausing stand-up for busy fall shoot!

Cristela Alonzo is locking in some California dates before taking a short stand-up hiatus. The trailblazing comedian and actress announced on Instagram that she’ll tackle three nights at the Brea Improv in August — her last live shows for a bit as she shifts focus to her next Netflix special.

Next Up: Brea, Ca

Alonzo’s Instagram post reads:

“🗣️ NEXT SHOWS: BREA, CA

Tickets on sale NOW! I’m coming to do THREE shows @breaimprov in August. After that, I don’t have any shows in the books for a while. That’s it for stand-up for a bit…(but only for a little bit).”

Fans eager for a night of her signature observational humor can grab seats now through the Improv’s box office. It’s a chance to catch the creator and star of ABC’s 2014 sitcom Cristela live on stage — a role that made her the first Latina to write, executive-produce, and headline her own American network comedy.

A Pause For A Netflix Special

While these Brea dates mark a temporary wrap on tour announcements, Alonzo has been hard at work on her third stand-up special for Netflix. In late May, she closed out a run at Los Angeles’s historic Ice House with a final set before heading into the studio:

“@cristela9 running her set one last time at The Ice House before filming her 3rd Netflix special!” the caption read, alongside snapshots of a packed room and Alonzo pacing the stage with her trademark energy.

Just days later, she jetted to Dallas’s Majestic Theatre to shoot the special. Tickets for the evening show sold out quickly — a testament to her growing fan base since the release of her first Netflix outing, Lower Classy, in 2019:

“Thank you to @uwaedeosifo for this piece on my visit to Dallas to shoot my third Netflix special TOMORROW at The Majestic for the @dallasnews,” Alonzo wrote. “There’s tickets left for the 9:30 PM show available at my website. Go protest No Kings Day in the morning, come celebrate with the Queen at night. ✊🏽”

From hit sitcom star to Pixar voiceover artist — she originated the role of Cruz Ramirez in Cars 3 in 2017 — Alonzo has built a multi-platform career. Her two Netflix specials and prime-time series paved the way for a wider audience, and now she’s closing out summer with intimate comedy club dates.

A handful of Brea Improv shows offers fans a chance to see one of today’s most compelling comedic voices up close before she cycles back into production mode. After August, Alonzo’s calendar stays clear of live stand-up engagements until her special drops in the fall.

Whether she’s riffing on family life, social quirks, or Hollywood clichés, Cristela Alonzo delivers a blend of sharp wit and heart. These Brea dates will be among the last chances to catch new material before her Netflix return — and tickets are already moving fast.
