Christie Brinkley has taken fans on a nostalgic journey back to 1968 with a throwback photo ahead of her memoir release. The supermodel shared a vintage image of herself as a 14-year-old, capturing a moment in time when The Beatles dominated the airwaves and her remarkable career was still years away.
In the Instagram post, Brinkley is seen as a teenage girl in a vintage photograph from 1968, wearing what she identifies as a P Coat and Landlubber jeans – fashion staples of that era. Her caption reveals a personal connection to that time in music history, noting that “Hey Jude” by The Beatles had just become her “new favorite song.”
“May 1968 I just turned 14. Hey Jude was my new favorite song and I never would have guessed that someday I would write a memoir!” Brinkley wrote in her caption, adding that her book “UPTOWN GIRL” releases on April 29th.
From Teenage Fan To Cultural Icon
The timing of Brinkley’s throwback is particularly meaningful considering “Hey Jude” was released in August 1968, just months after the photo was taken. Little did the teenage Brinkley know that she would later become one of the world’s most recognizable supermodels and eventually pen her life story.
The title of her memoir, “Uptown Girl,” holds special significance as it references the 1983 Billy Joel hit song reportedly written about Brinkley, whom Joel later married. Their relationship became one of the most high-profile celebrity romances of that era.
Behind The Memoir
Brinkley’s upcoming book promises to be a revealing look at her decades-spanning career. According to recent posts on her Instagram, the memoir will cover everything from “being discovered in Paris at age 20 to living life in the spotlight for over five decades.”
In a promotional post for the book, Brinkley shared: “I’m opening up about everything…The highs, the lows, the modeling and the marriages, the heartbreaks, and lots of fun adventures and so much more.” She also noted that each edition includes exclusive, never-before-seen pieces of her original artwork and photographs.
The supermodel has been busy promoting her memoir, recently appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, which will air on April 29th to coincide with the book’s release. She also visited HarperCollins to sign 500 copies for a limited special autographed collection.
A Multi-Faceted Career
At 70, Brinkley continues to maintain a vibrant public presence. According to her Wikipedia profile, she gained worldwide fame with her appearances in the late 1970s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues, appearing on an unprecedented three consecutive covers starting in 1979. Her 25-year contract with CoverGirl was one of the longest modeling contracts in history.
Brinkley’s family also features prominently in her public life. Her daughter with Billy Joel, Alexa Ray Joel, recently joined her mother for interviews promoting the book. In one heartwarming clip shared on social media, Alexa praises her mother for writing the memoir.
The mother-daughter duo also participated in a playful “Most Likely To” segment for promotional purposes, showing their close relationship. Brinkley is also mother to Jack Brinkley-Cook and Sailor Brinkley-Cook from her other marriages.
Continued Relevance
Brinkley remains active in the fashion world, recently appearing in a photoshoot for Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam. The behind-the-scenes images show the supermodel looking remarkably youthful in designer outfits from brands including Sergio Hudson, Mugler, Stella McCartney, and Balenciaga.
With the release of “Uptown Girl,” Brinkley invites readers to experience her journey from that Beatles-loving teenager in 1968 to her status as an enduring icon in modeling, entertainment, and business. The memoir promises to offer fans an intimate look at the woman behind the famous face.
For collectors and fans, Brinkley noted that the signed editions would “make a great gift just in time for Mother’s Day,” suggesting the perfect timing of the release for the May holiday.
