Showtime In The Windy City
It’s showtime in the Windy City. Ice Cube’s Big3 basketball league returns to Allstate Arena this Sunday, June 14, with two veteran coaches squaring off under the bright lights. At 6:30 pm ET, Coach Zeke Austin (@coachzeke.austin) and Gary Green (@g.green_44) will guide their teams in a three-on-three showdown airing live on Vice TV. “ARE YOU READY?” the league teased on Instagram earlier this week, setting the stage for another night of high-flying action.
Ice Cube’s Basketball Vision
O’Shea Jackson Sr., better known as Ice Cube, launched the Big3 in January 2017 with the goal of blending professional basketball, entertainment, and urban culture into a traveling showcase. The rapper-turned-film-producer turned league founder tapped former NBA stars and streetball legends to fill the rosters. Since then, the Big3 has grown into a summer staple, taking over arenas in major U.S. cities and delivering fast-paced, physical competition under unique rules—like the four-point shot and “Bring the Fire” challenge.
In a related Instagram post from June 14 (https://www.instagram.com/p/DKzopEbMxG4/), the league hyped its prior Chicago contest: “It’s going down in Chicago. @franknittyy and @earlclark_ face off vs. @g.green_44 and Corey Brewer at 6:30 ET on @vicetv. DON’T MISS IT.” That matchup saw Gary Green’s 3 Headed Monsters edge out Power’s Frank Nitty and Earl Clark in a tight affair, proving Chicago crowds are all about their basketball.
Coaches Clash Under The Spotlight
Zeke Austin made his Big3 coaching debut with Trilogy’s championship run in 2022 and has since built a reputation for crafty rotations and motivational fire. His squads thrive on ball movement and three-point accuracy. Opposite him, Gary Green—once a standout NBA guard—has coached the 3 Headed Monsters since 2021, leaning on toughness inside and veteran savvy from players like Corey Brewer.
“We’ve studied Austin’s sets and we know how they like to spread the floor,” Green told Vice TV in a pregame segment. “Now it’s our turn to bring the heat.” Austin responded on social media: “Chicago’s our stage. Let’s give these fans a show.” Both benches will feature familiar faces—retired pros turned Big3 stars—vying for bragging rights on one of the league’s biggest nights.
Broadcast And Viewing Options
Fans can stream the action on Vice TV beginning at 6:30 pm ET, with live analysis from former NBA talents. Select markets can also catch the game on CBS Sports Network. Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm ET sharp—just in time for a Sunday-night sports fix before the new NBA season heats up.
Ticket holders arriving at Allstate Arena should plan for a full evening of music performances, in-game challenges (including the “Bring the Fire” one-on-one dunk contest), and postgame meet-and-greet activations. For those watching from home, the Big3’s social channels will drop behind-the-scenes clips and highlight reels featuring Ice Cube himself making the rounds between games.
Saturday’s community event at Crenshaw Imperial Plaza—hosted by Ice Cube and Riot Coach @swaggyp1—gave fans a taste of the league’s streetball roots. Attendees picked up swag, challenged local talent, and heard from big3.trilogy and Big3 legend Gillie the King about their road to Chicago.
Whether you’re a die-hard hoop fan or an Ice Cube music aficionado, Sunday’s Big3 tip-off in Chicago promises carnival-style energy mixed with veteran competitiveness. Players will race through two back-to-back 10-minute halves, hunt four-point bomb opportunities, and dive for loose balls, all under the watchful eye of the arena crowd.
Bring your bravado and your popcorn; the Big3’s Chicago chapter is about to deliver another dose of summer basketball flair. ARE YOU READY?
