The Call She Couldn’t Answer

Disney’s Moana breakout Auliʻi Cravalho turned off her phone and turned up the charm this week, posting a breezy apology to fans: “Sorry I missed your call, I was out getting some fresh air… in Italy. 🇮🇹” The 23-year-old actress, best known for her Oscar-nominated voice work in Moana and her Netflix series All Together Now, treated her 2.4 million Instagram followers to a sun-kissed peek at her latest European escape.

Scenic Italian Sojourn

Cravalho’s carousel of photos spans rolling vineyards to seaside cliffs. One snap finds her perched on a stone wall above the Mediterranean, wind-blown hair framing a serene smile. In another, she strolls through an olive grove, the golden afternoon light casting long shadows on terracotta rooftops. Though she kept captions short, the sense of tranquility shines through: fresh air, lush landscapes, and an occasional gelato cone to cool off.

According to regional weather data, much of coastal Italy has seen record-high temperatures this spring—making Cravalho’s relaxed approach to slow travel even more appealing. Rather than ticking off bucket-list monuments, she savored leisurely mornings with espresso in hand and evenings at rustic trattorias, sampling classic pasta dishes and local wines.

From Moana To Mediterranean

Italy isn’t Cravalho’s first international stop this year. In early June, she took to Instagram from Nice, France, where she joined ocean-conservation delegates at the United Nations Ocean’s Conference. Sharing backstage photos from the Palais des Congrès, she wrote: “There is power in storytelling even in the ocean conservation space… Mahalo nui loa @nature_org for creating such a powerful space for emotional impact.” That post underscored her commitment to environmental issues and showcased her willingness to use celebrity reach for a cause.

With Moana 2 officially announced for a 2024 premiere, Cravalho has woven activism and artistry into her public narrative—proving that a global career can also involve global responsibility. Italy, she hinted, is part R&R and part research, as she explores regional sustainability practices and local farm-to-table movements.

What’s Next: Projects And Plans

Back home, Cravalho’s schedule is filling fast. In addition to reprising her role as Moana, she’s reportedly eyeing a new feature film and has been tapped as a guest narrator for a high-profile nature documentary. Her reps confirm she’ll attend the D23 Expo later this summer, giving fans a closer look at her Disney commitments.

In a recent interview with Variety, Cravalho reflected on balancing work and wellness: “I’m learning that it’s OK to pause between big moments. Sometimes stepping away from the spotlight fuels my creativity more than any studio session.” Italy’s open skies and rustic charm appear to have provided that pause—and plenty of new inspiration.
