Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Alex Borstein has taken her talents to Washington D.C., but this time she’s not performing—she’s advocating. The star shared her participation in Arts Advocacy Day 2025 with her followers on Instagram, highlighting the critical importance of arts funding and education across America.
Championing The Arts In The Nation’s Capital
Borstein posted a video from Washington D.C. with the caption “Welcome to D.C., baby!!” announcing her presence in the capital for #ArtsDay2025 with The Creative Coalition, an organization that brings together entertainment industry professionals to advocate for social causes.
In her post, Borstein emphasized some compelling statistics about the arts sector in America, noting that “more than 5 million Americans work in the arts sector.” She also highlighted the educational benefits of arts programs, stating that “having access to art and art programs in schools and communities also raises general test scores, confidence and communication skills.”
The actress made a clear call for support of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), which provides funding for arts programs “in every single congressional district” according to her post. She concluded with the hashtags #RightToBearArts #TheCreativeCoalition #ArtsAdvocacy #Arts, showcasing her commitment to the cause.
Arts Advocacy: A Passion Project
The Creative Coalition, which Borstein is representing during her D.C. visit, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989 by prominent members of the entertainment industry. The organization leverages the visibility and influence of the creative community to address issues of social importance, with arts advocacy being one of its primary missions.
Arts Advocacy Day brings together arts advocates from across the country to Washington D.C. to meet with elected officials and make the case for the importance of arts funding, education, and accessibility. Participants typically engage in meetings with congressional representatives, attend briefings, and participate in networking events aimed at strengthening support for the arts at the federal level.
From The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel To Political Advocacy
Borstein is perhaps best known for her Emmy-winning role as Susie Myerson in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and for her long-running voice work as Lois Griffin on the animated series “Family Guy.”
Beyond her entertainment career, Borstein has increasingly used her platform for advocacy work. Just days before her D.C. trip, she marked World Hemophilia Day on April 17, sharing her personal connection to the condition as “a carrier of Hemophilia and a mother of a daughter with Hemophilia.” She has also recently promoted her upcoming comedy shows, including a May 15th performance in Los Angeles where she announced her proceeds would go to “LA fire folk.”
Balancing Entertainment And Advocacy
Despite her busy advocacy schedule, Borstein remains active in the entertainment industry. She recently celebrated the streaming release of her series “Étoile” on Prime Video, posting on April 22 with “Putain de merde!!! Today is the day. @etoileonprime is now streaming. Watch it. Love it. Do it.” She also marked the two-year anniversary of her comedy special “Alex Borstein: Corsets & Clown Suits” which was nominated for a Critics Choice Award.
The Importance Of Arts Funding
Borstein’s advocacy for the National Endowment for the Arts comes at a time when arts funding often faces scrutiny in budget discussions. The NEA was established by Congress in 1965 and has been a crucial source of support for arts organizations, education programs, and individual artists across the United States.
Research has consistently shown that arts education provides significant benefits to students, including improved academic performance, increased attendance rates, and enhanced critical thinking skills. Beyond education, the arts sector contributes substantially to the American economy, creating jobs and generating tax revenue.
Borstein’s voice joins those of many other artists and entertainers who recognize that their success is built upon a foundation of arts education and support. By participating in Arts Advocacy Day, she’s helping to ensure that future generations will have access to the same opportunities that helped launch her remarkable career.
