Australian actress Emilie de Ravin has shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to her former “Once Upon a Time” co-star Sean Maguire, giving fans a rare glimpse of their friendship outside the fantasy series that brought them together.

The 43-year-old actress took to Instagram to post a belated birthday message accompanied by what she described as a rare photo of the pair together, as they don’t often document their moments together.

“Happy (belated!) Birthday my wonderful friend! We don’t seem to take too many pics together so here’s one of us at a convention with a very cute pup who’s either tired, excited or maybe just over us hugging it,” de Ravin wrote in her caption.

In the image, the two actors can be seen posing with a small dog at what appears to be a fan convention. Both are smiling while holding the somewhat underwhelmed-looking pup, creating a charming and candid moment between the co-stars.

De Ravin concluded her heartfelt message with warm wishes for her friend: “Anyways- I love ya Sean. Hope this next spin around the sun is a good one.”

Once Upon A Friendship

Fans of ABC’s hit fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time” will recognize de Ravin for her role as Belle, the intelligent and kind-hearted character based on Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Maguire joined the series in its third season as Robin Hood, the legendary thief with a heart of gold who became the love interest of Regina Mills/The Evil Queen.

While their characters didn’t share extensive storylines together on the show, it’s clear their real-life friendship has endured well beyond the series finale, which aired in 2018 after seven seasons.

This isn’t the first time de Ravin has shown her appreciation for her former castmates. Just last month, she posted a tribute to another “Once Upon a Time” co-star, Robert Carlyle, who played Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold (Belle’s love interest in the series). In that post, she shared multiple photos of them throughout the years and expressed excitement about their upcoming reunion at the “From Storybrooke to Paris 2” convention.

“Happy Birthday my friend! You’re a friggin gem of a human, on & off screen,” de Ravin wrote to Carlyle. “Hope you have a wonderful day with your beautiful fam. Small over-the-years tribute here haha- cos, why not! Love ya Bobby, you truly do have a heart of gold.”

She also mentioned looking forward to reuniting with him at the Paris convention, adding, “P.S. can’t wait for a #ouat reunion in Paris with you this year at #fromstorybrooketoparis2.”

From Storybrooke To Hallmark

While “Once Upon a Time” ended several years ago, de Ravin has kept busy with new projects. Most recently, she starred in the Hallmark Channel movie “The Reluctant Royal,” which premiered on March 8, 2025. The film follows the story of a mechanic who discovers he’s the heir to a European throne, with de Ravin playing Prudence, who helps him navigate this unexpected royal transition.

De Ravin promoted the film enthusiastically on her Instagram, calling it “super cute & super fun” and sharing clips from the production.

Before her role in “Once Upon a Time,” the Australian actress gained international recognition for her portrayal of Claire Littleton in the ABC drama “Lost.” Earlier this month, she shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the finale of the hit series, writing, “Looking through old pics & found this. One of my fav LOST pics from the finale. (BTS) Such beautiful people these fiends all are, inside and out.”

Life Beyond The Screen

Beyond her acting career, de Ravin is also a proud mother of two daughters. On International Women’s Day, she shared a touching message about motherhood along with a photo of her children.

“My 2 incredible little girls-may all your beautiful dreams come true,” she wrote. “My hope is you will both always speak your truth & stand up for yourselves & your rights, love yourselves, be your strong fearless, feisty, loving, funny & compassionate selves & just never be afraid to be YOU.”

As fans continue to celebrate the connections between the beloved cast of “Once Upon a Time,” this latest birthday tribute from de Ravin to Maguire serves as a sweet reminder of the lasting friendships formed during the show’s seven-year run on television.
