In a touching display of the healing power of music, former CSI star Gary Dourdan recently visited Skydog Sanctuary, where he created an extraordinary connection with rescue horses through his musical talents.

The sanctuary shared a moving video of the encounter on Instagram, capturing a particularly special moment between Dourdan and a horse named Libby, who appeared mesmerized by the actor’s guitar playing and singing.

A Magical Connection

The video shows Libby completely entranced by Dourdan’s music, visibly relaxing as he plays guitar and sings near her. According to the sanctuary’s post, Libby has endured significant trauma in her past, making her response to the music particularly meaningful.

“She was so mesmerized and enchanted by the sound of the guitar and I think she fell a little in love with Gary too,” the sanctuary wrote in their Instagram caption. “I caught some more video of her releasing a lot of stored-up tension with a series of deep yawns and neck stretches, which was powerful healing.”

The sanctuary described how Libby, who has “been through a lot in her life,” appeared to release past trauma and stress during the musical session. The post noted that all animals at the sanctuary received personalized songs from Dourdan, with fascinating and varied reactions from the horses and donkeys.

Longtime Animal Advocate

This isn’t Dourdan’s first interaction with rescue horses. According to the sanctuary, the actor “has been a great friend for so long” and “even used to help take care of the horses before Skydog.” They praised his “beautiful and healing energy and a whole lot of love for the animals.”

The sanctuary promised followers a longer video highlighting more moments from Dourdan’s visit, concluding their post with the sentiment “Love always wins” and hashtags supporting mustang rescue and protection.

Dourdan’s Career

Gary Dourdan is best known for his role as forensic investigator Warrick Brown on the hit CBS series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation from 2000 to 2008. His character was one of the original team members and became a fan favorite during the show’s early seasons.

The actor is also maintaining a busy professional schedule. Dourdan appears in the upcoming adventure-romance film “The Lost Princess,” directed by Hicham Hajji. The film, which also stars Cillian O’Sullivan, Soraya Azzabi, Irma Lake, Mohammed Bassou, and Eric Roberts, is set for release on Digital and VOD on May 13, 2025. Variety recently provided an exclusive announcement about the project.

A Musical Talent

While many fans know Dourdan for his acting, his musical abilities have been less publicized. The Skydog Sanctuary post described him as “an amazing musician,” a talent that clearly resonated with the rescue animals during his visit.

The sanctuary’s moving video demonstrates how Dourdan’s talents extend beyond the screen, creating genuine connections and facilitating healing for animals who have experienced trauma. This intersection of entertainment, compassion, and animal welfare highlights a different dimension of the actor’s life beyond his Hollywood career.

The Skydog Sanctuary continues its work rescuing and rehabilitating horses, particularly mustangs, advocating for their protection through initiatives like the SAFE Act (Save America’s Forgotten Equines Act).
