Comedian and political commentator D.L. Hughley has taken aim at tech billionaire Elon Musk, suggesting that the Tesla CEO’s involvement with government agencies was motivated by data collection rather than addressing government inefficiencies.

In a recent Instagram post, Hughley shared a screenshot of a post claiming “ELON MUSK STEPPING BACK FROM DOGE TO FOCUS ON TESLA.” The post originated from user Aaron Parnas, but Hughley added his own pointed commentary.

“This has nothing to do with Tesla… The same way whatever the hell he was doing in all those government agencies had nothing to do with over spending or waste, fraud and abuse,” Hughley wrote. “That dude and his band of Tech Pirates were on a data hoarding mission. Trust and believe, it was accomplished!”

The post concludes with Hughley’s signature hashtag “#TeamDL,” which appears on most of his social media content.

Musk’s Government Connections

While Hughley didn’t specify which government agencies he was referring to, Musk has had various connections with government bodies over the years. He served on two of former President Trump’s advisory councils in 2017 before resigning, and more recently, was appointed to an efficiency commission by President Biden.

Musk’s cryptocurrency involvement has also made headlines over the years, particularly his public support for Dogecoin, which has significantly affected the cryptocurrency’s market value through his tweets and statements.

Hughley’s Political Commentary

This isn’t the first time Hughley has voiced strong political opinions. The comedian consistently uses his platform to address political issues, particularly those affecting the Black community and matters of social justice.

According to his Wikipedia page, Hughley is known for being outspoken about political issues and has hosted shows where he discusses politics, including his own radio program, “The D.L. Hughley Show.” He was also a correspondent for The Jay Leno Show on NBC where he covered political topics.

In another recent Instagram post, Hughley criticized the handling of security clearances, stating, “ONCE AGAIN, AMERICA HAS PULLED UP HER SKIRT AND FLASHED HER RAC!SM. MAKE NO MISTAKE, THIS IS NOT NEW… IT’S RETRO, BABY!!” The post referenced historical injustices against Black Americans.

He has also been vocal about international relations, sharing content about U.S.-China relations and pointing out that “CHINA NOT ONLY DOES NOT GAF, THEY ALSO HOLD $816 BILLION OF OUR DEBT TO THEM.”

Beyond Politics

While Hughley’s feed is dominated by political commentary, he does share glimpses of his personal life. Several posts feature his granddaughter, whom he affectionately refers to with the hashtag “#NolaAndHim.” In one post, he wrote, “No bad days with this little one around ♥️ #NolaAndHim ✨✨.”

Born on March 6, 1963, D.L. Hughley first gained prominence as the original host of BET’s ComicView from 1992 to 1993. He later starred in his own sitcom, The Hughleys, and was one of the four comedians featured in the Spike Lee film The Original Kings of Comedy, alongside Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, and Cedric the Entertainer.

Throughout his career, Hughley has balanced entertainment with activism. He has been married to LaDonna Hughley since 1986, and they have three children together. His blend of humor and social commentary has earned him a reputation as one of the most politically engaged comedians in America.

Hughley’s criticism of Musk comes at a time when many tech leaders are facing increased scrutiny about their influence on politics and society. His suggestion that Musk was on a “data hoarding mission” adds to the ongoing conversation about tech billionaires’ power and access to information.

Neither Musk nor his representatives have publicly responded to Hughley’s comments as of the time of this report.
